CA wants to arrange "Satisfied in full"

Hi! :)++

CA says they will:

"take my individual situation into account and are willing to help me minimize the long-term negative effect on my credit rating. Once paid, their company will update my credit record to reflect this account as "satisfied in full".......

Will this still be a negative mark on my credit report?:confused:

I live in Texas, and the CA is listed on the collection letter as coming from Atlanta, GA.

I believe the Sol has expired, (from 2001) but I don't want this coming back to haunt me and I would like to try to negotiate with them to delete the account from my CR completely. Do I have any negotiating power? The amount is just a little over $200 if that helps any. I was searching for a sample letter I could send them but only found one for reducing the amount. I can pay the whole amount and just want it removed.

What do you think?......

The debt is from an apartment I rented that needed repairs.

First, Direred is correct - sounds like a CROA violation. Problem is, you cannot sue without damages, and you don't want damages here.

The guy is just jerking you around. "Minimize" and "Satisfied in Full" are code words for "we'll mark it as a paid in full collection."

Problem is, they probably cannot outright say - yes, pay us and we'll delete. The CRA's are really cracking down on that and I'm sure it's a violation of their contract. I've read that a few people actually got such a promise in writing, but I think it's becoming more and more rare.

Bottom line with this guy is that he has been trained on how to look like you're being nice and helpful just long enough to reach around and plunge the knife between the shoulder blades.

Hi, thanks for the replies. I feel like I only have one chance to get this right and I don't want to make things worse for myself by suing them if it would me damages for me. Or screw it up with my wording on a pay for delete offer. Should the letter be directed to the representative on the letter they sent me, or someone higher? And if there's any important notes I should add, please let me know. Thanks!

Nope, OC won't deal with me.

Sometimes you just can't get a PFD and the OC won't pull back the acct. When it is past SOL, I tell them that they can either pull it back and I will pay it in full (or for the CA, PFD and I will pay in full) or they get nothing. A paid collection is the same as an unpaid one. For me, the only CA on my bureaus is a medical one. It will not hurt me if I go for a mortgage...it'd DOFD is 4/24/02. That is 4.5 years ago. I am 2.5 yrs from deletion so the can stick it.

I am a patient woman.... not! LOL :twisted:
