griffiscustoms
What's the process for getting medical collections removed from my credit file? I know they're valid, and some of them are even paid. They're all less than $100, there's 3 on my file and I think 5 or 6 on my wife's file. I don't see the point in sending a validation letter to them since it's a small amount, and most are paid. So what should I do to get them deleted? lostnjax
since they are less than $100 bucks, I would call them up and make an offer in exchange for deletion. it worked for me. I winded up settling for 60 cents on the dollar plus deletion. it was multiple small amounts like yours but oddly they were placed with the same CA. Before you send any $$$ get it in writing stating the amount you agreed to serves as "settled in full".Also, do not give the CA electronic access to your bank account for payment. Some unscrupulous CA's will clean you out.good luck
thomassl
I recently had success with removing a medical collection account which had been paid over three years ago but still appeared on my credit report. I contacted the original creditor (hospital) and politely ask the collection's manager as the account was paid, would they remove it as I was trying to obtain a mortgage and this was in the way. The manager graciously sent me a letter stating he contacted the collection agency and had it removed from the credit bureaus. It worked!!! It's gone!!! I have told other associates of mine and they have done the same and been very successful. On the accounts where you still owe a small balance, send them a settlement letter stating that you will pay the entire amount with the contingency that they remove it from the credit bureau. Don't send any money until you get a signed agreement from them. If you send the money first, it is extremely difficult to get them to remove it from the credit bureaus. Always try to work with the creditors, not the collection agencies. Most creditors want the money and are willing to work something out.
