? on a false collection

Recommended Posts

In 2003 I had a collection that was reported to my credit report. I had no idea that it was on the report until last year when I applied for a loan and noticed that it was there. I promptly wrote a letter to the OC (Dr's Office) who contacted the collection agency and had it removed. The next month the collection agency moved it to my wifes credit report. I again wrote to the OC who refused to respond to me. I also disputed the item twice. I had been working on credit repair for about 8 months and just gave up.

I am currently getting ready to apply for a new mortgage, and pulled a credit report for my wife and I and this collection is on her report. I have a letter from the OC stating that it was reported on accident and should have never happened, however it says nothing about my wife. I am preparing letters to be sent to the OC and CA but I am wondering if there is anything additional that I can do or if there is anybody with advice on what to include in the letters that my get a response?

Thanks

I think you need to first find out if your wife ever saw this doctor. If not, then the quickest way to handle it is to file an IDTheft report at your local police station, send a copy of the report to the OC, the CA, and the CRA and tell them that under the FCRA they have 30 days to remove the item permanently.

I am the one who saw the Dr.. The Dr's office just made the mistake of turning over the bill to the collection agency after I paid them at the office.
