Dropped collections *lowered* my score

I am completely confused now. I tried looking for information on why this might have happened, and I haven't found anything clear. Maybe I'm not looking for the right thing....

I had about 3-5 collections on each of my CRs, most of them old, a few I didn't recognize. I disputed them, and all of them dropped off EQ, and a couple remain on TR and EX. I'm DVing these.

Problem is, my EQ fako score (truecredit estimation) dropped through the floor when the collections fell off-- from 650 to 590. What the heck?

Am I missing something? Can someone buy me a clue, please?

Because FICO scoring is in tiers.

Based on the makeup of your report, you are compared to other people with similar characteristics. Once you dropped off all those old collections you were probably placed in another tier. A tier where you don't look as good compared to others in the tier.

Still, it's better to have a lower score and less collections than a higher score and more collections.

Plus, you never know what you're getting with a FAKO score anyways. Unless you are completely done the credit repair process, ignore it. Your score will fluctuate quite a bit until you are done and established. Once your report is clean, you can worry about your score.
