Winninger
Just curious if this has happened to anyone else...When we were selling our house, a title search discovered a lien that a hospital put on our house. Sadly, the bill had been paid in full by Blue Cross Blue Shield. We got the lien removed by the hospital, but I was surprised that a hospital could do that.I mean, I thought you had to go to court, get a judgement and then collect the judgement. Putting a lien on property is one way to satisfy the judgement. But we were never served -- no due process -- nothing, zilch, nada. Are hospitals exempt from due process and can they proceed "directly to GO" (as they say in Monopoly). Or does this happen all the time in Florida and elsewhere?
Recovering Attorney
You said they had a lien. There are many statutoy liens ( mechanics can lien your car, contractors can lien your proerty for improvements, social service districts can lien for welfare benefits ), maybe hospitals have one in FLA
