Lien by a Hospital (FLA)

Recommended Posts

Just curious if this has happened to anyone else...

When we were selling our house, a title search discovered a lien that a hospital put on our house. Sadly, the bill had been paid in full by Blue Cross Blue Shield. We got the lien removed by the hospital, but I was surprised that a hospital could do that.

I mean, I thought you had to go to court, get a judgement and then collect the judgement. Putting a lien on property is one way to satisfy the judgement.

But we were never served -- no due process -- nothing, zilch, nada.

Are hospitals exempt from due process and can they proceed "directly to GO" (as they say in Monopoly). Or does this happen all the time in Florida and elsewhere?
