MAD14kt
Hello,I am trying to purchase a home and Equifax has me as deceased. I don't know how this came about because my mother died in 2000 and I am an only child. One creditor told me they made a big mistake you are very much alive. I have ordered my credit report but it has not arrived as of yet. How do I go about getting this corrected? I would be grateful for all your help.Thanks. Methuss
Actually, this happens a lot more frequently than the CRAs will admit. Some people have an easy time getting this fixed, others don't. It will depend on if the death is registered because of someone else using your SSN. If that happened, there may be a ghost-file. The bureaus recently admitted they will set up multiple files with the same SSN and different names and the real SSN holder would never even know until something like this came up. This is hard to fix because you have to prove you are who you say you are. Hopefully you have an official copy of your birth certificate available to you (you should always keep one in a fire-safe at your house anyways) to help fix this.It could also be a typographical error on a public record submitted to the CRA or a miskey by someone at the CRA entering the data. These are easier to fix.
