Juniper Showed Me Some Love

Recommended Posts

Just goes to show persistance pays off....I was turned down 12/20/06 for Canival Sea Miles Card. I reapplied today and instant approval for $1750.00

I am assuming they pulled from TU as they did last time. Scores with TU have risen over the past month with my various attempts at credit repair (a big one being I went from 12 inquiriys down to 3 using daily pulls with TC.

Does anyone with a Juniper know what the odds are on requesting and receiving a CL as soon I receive the card?

The odds are slim to none. Juniper is stingy with CLIs. The earliest they'd even consider it is 6 months (they'll tell you 4, but I've never seen that happen).

Well actually they did in a way.....waited 2 hours then applied for USAir....guess what...instant online approval for another $1750.00

After finishing the online approval...I went to my online account created for Canival card and there they are.... both showed up

So I guess they saved me a dime to ask for the CL...hehehe

That's not what you asked, though...;)

I've advised many times here to apply for the US Air/Carnival duo at the same time. You should have read up a bit before you applied!!8-)

I know that is not what I asked....and the reason I did the duo was due to reading up on the advice given by you :-D .

However from what I've read, it was unexpected to get both with an instant approval as opposed to having to wait.

Trust me...after the Target denial...I read all your posts before applying for a specific card :notworthy: LNY

Well, congrats on your INSTANT approvals!! That is a good feeling, isn't it? :)++

Long time no speak:). I am still here and lurk every day on the forum. I guess I need a little advice in regard to my Juniper accounts. Okay, here's the scoopage:

I presently have 6 credit cards (opened over the past 14 months):

Capital One $3500

Wamu $3000

Orchard $600

Wal-Mart $800

Juniper (regular) $250

Juniper U.S. Airways $400

My question: I recently was approved for the U.S. Airways. I have had the regular Juniper card for about 7 months. I am considering closing the regular Juniper. The reason is that the limit is low, I have asked for an increase and they tell me, continually, my card is not eligible. However, the interest rate on this card is one of my lowest at 12.7%. That's hard to beat when you're rebuilding. I have thought about applying for a different credit card and closing this one, but I am reluctant and this is where I need advice. My scores are each in the 640-680 range. I have a bankruptcy only showing on Experian and Equifax, not on TransUnion. LNY (or anyone) advice? Input? Thanks in advance!

Hey hon! How ya been?:)++

Option 1: Call Juniper and ask to fold the older Juniper into the new one (that will give you a $650 limit on the new one). That older one will NEVER increase. You'll take a short-term hit, though.

Option 2: Suck it up on the older Juniper. But keep in mind that the 12.7% rate won't do you any good when every time you use the card you're jacking up your utilization unless you use it as a STRICT PIF. Believe me, that $250 is for life. It'll never go up, even if your score is 850.

Things have been going well. I hope things have good for you too! It's so cool to see you as a moderator:). This Juniper card is driving me nuts (not a far trip...LOL;))! I think I am going to try option #1 first. They are just such turds about giving CLI's! You are EXACTLY right about the rate not doing me any good especially with this $250 CL. I do PIF each month, but it's a pain in the butt because 30% of $250 is $75. Great for gas sometimes, but I feel it should at least be a card that will give CLI's and this one wil not. I want to build with my cards and I would like them to grow with me. This one will never grow and that reeks. So, I will take your advice, try option #1 (will call here today if they are open). If they balk, I will close it and take the short-term hit. Thanks for your advice! You are da bomb!!!!:)

Always good to see you. :)

Remember you're going to take a hit no matter how you close it (either by combining or just outright) but Option 1 preserves your utilization and takes some of the bite off.

Come to think of it, I may have been a little off on my advice. I had the same $250 card (but at 15%) that would not increase. I closed it in anger. I called later on and said look, "you just approved me for a $5000 card and my score is almost 800. It makes no sense. But you're making it impossible for me to use this card, that's why I closed it." I talked to the credit dept. (bypassing the CSRs) and they agreed to up it to $1000 because of my score and recent approval. Of course I closed it soon after and combined it with the new card... which was 7.9% fixed!!

But that's a rarity with Juniper, frankly. Unless you have a 790+ score, they're not likely to up that $250 card EVER.

Okay, so I called and, although they are open for customer service, she stated it was the credit department I needed to speak to. See how good your advice is?:):) She gave me some double-speak stating that they "may" be able to combine them, she has seen it in the past, but not so sure and, well, it's up to the credit department, but it looks promising....HUH?:D. So, the credit department is open M-F 8-5 EST, she says, (I am in Mountain) and will try and call Monday on my lunch break.

That is awesome that you got that 7.9% fixed! Killer deal there! But, you have earned it...look at your credit scores! Wow!

I think I can handle the hit either way (option 1 or option 2), I am just irritated at the $250 CL. It would be nice to get the same type of deal you did, but I can guarantee you I won't...my scores are nowhere near yours....but I'm trying:). They are just so stingy. I have visions of me being 60 years old with great cc's and this old Juniper with a $250 CL...LOL.

I will post once I call on Monday and let you know the outcome. Thanks again for your advice:)! Always much appreciated!

Have a great rest of your weekend!

Edited to note the scores in my signature are higher now, thanks to this forum! They are between 640-680...Yahoo!!!! Slowly, but surely!

One thing about Juniper is that the expertise of the CSRs varies GREATLY. You can call back 5 minutes later and get one who'll say "No problem, I'll do that for you right now..." and you'll see your new limit online within minutes. The combination can be done at the CSR level, and hardly anyone is refused.

Those monsters LOL. I called and got the same line of crapola. This time, though, I got information that two $99 companion tickets were mailed the other day (never knew this came with the card and I need these!) and that she would "put in a request" and they would contact me Monday and she was going to see about combining the two cards and then also increasing the credit limit of the main card. Considering I live in Idaho, originally from Alabama, and my husband and I have 4 children, this would be nice so we can travel back to Alabama this summer. How does one buy 6 plane tickets on a $400 credit limit?

LNY....thank you again for your sound advice. I can always count on you:).

Oh, that's great! If they combine the cards, you'll have a $650 limit. If you do talk to the credit dept., make sure you throw in that you'd love to make this your primary card, but it's hard to use it for airline tickets with a low limit.

Apllied for the Juniper Carnival card and they said they had to review it... I hate when they do this but its seems like they do it on the weekend. Hell I still haven't received a denial letter from Home Depot, Lowes or Amex Jet Blue...I just assumed they denied me since they never responded....

Okay....so I called this a.m. and they did combine the 2 cards, so I have just the U.S. Airways with a $650 limit. They told me to call back when the card has aged 4 months and request a CLI as I told her my husband and I have 4 children and would like to use this card for our travel each year. The regular Juniper is closed, and I know I will take the short-term hit, but I am okay with that. I have already cut it up. She told me to call back if I ever wanted to reopen that account. Fat chance. No $250 for life for me. Thanks again, LNY, for your advice on this!

Off to work I go....

Have a great one everyone!

Congrats! I myself am not too happy with Juniper at the moment. I applied about a week ago because I thought they pulled TU, but oh no, they pulled Experian, my lowest score! So I went to whogavemecredit, and sure enough, recently, Juniper has been pulling Experian lately. BOA too!

In Florida they are still pulling TU....

Way to go! Great limit! Mind me asking if those scores in your siggy are FICO or FAKO? Also, do you have any baddies, high utilization, etc. on the report they pulled? Thanks!

Those are my FICOs. They pulled my TU and on there I only have a dismissed CH 13, Household, and Providian (charged off). I also have 8 good TLs.
