780 fico and STILL Citi blacklists me!!!

Recommended Posts

What's it take to get some love from the Citi? I have a 4 year old charge-off and they are STILL blacklisting me! I don't have any problems getting credit increases from Citi backed cards but anything new from Citi or Diners Club gets rejected outright.

(My score would probably over 800 if not for that charge-off but oh well)

Is there anything I can do? Has anyone ever come back from a Citi blacklist? What's it gonna take- wait the full 7 years?

Yes, that's what it's going to take, I'm afraid. Four years is very recent.

Citi-backed cards (like store cards) are underwritten by a different part of Citi's business from the bankcards. So while you still might get a Sears card, you'd have to get incredibly lucky and slip through the cracks to get a Citi MasterCard.

Citi checks not only your report and score when you apply, but their own internal records. So even if you manage to dispute off the CO and it no longer appears on your report, it will still come up in their internal check of your dealings with them.

I have heard of people getting back in after the 7 years are up, but never before. Mistakes happen, of course, and the occasional person slips through via human error, but I wouldn't count on it.

Well my baddies are with Providian so I don't know what Citi has against me :(

Not being approved by Citi is not what we mean by being blacklisted. Blacklisted means you stuck a certain creditor with losses (CO, BK) and now they will not consider you for an account.

Sorry LNY what I was saying was that I have never left Citi with any CO or anything negative. As a matter of fact my Zales card has 6 yrs of positive credit history with never having a late. I see what yur saying if you have ever had any negative credit history with any creditor then Citi will blacklist you..Okay thanks for the info....but I still don't like them cause they turned me down for a CC.....

Citi is a prime lender and tends not to approve people who have collections or chargeoffs (even paid ones). They have plenty of people without blemishes with other lenders applying for their cards. Apply again once your credit is clean.

If you have charged off or included an account with CITI, CHASE, BOA, ( MBNA) , Ect you will be on an internal black list that will more than likely prohibit you from getting a new card from them... A lot of Customers have seen this happen to them with the BOA/MBNA merger, when the systems merged on 10/21/06.. all of the account history from both MBNA and BOA was on one system.. Example..... You apply for an Alaskin Airlines Visa Card through BOA, but the Credit analyst may notice a shallow or Gap in file which most of the time indicate that there may have been some financial difficulty in the past. The analyst can see if there were any accounts were charged off or included in a BKO from either the MBNA or BOA side of the Business.. This will mean a decline and also if it warrants, may shut down or decrease the present limits of any accounts that you have with BOA..

I've never heard of anyone getting ANY Citi card with ANY chargeoff showing on their reports. That's not a black list, it's a risk decision.

Recently applied for a Citi Diamond Preferred with a 5-year old charge-off from a medical finance company, c/o shows as $0 balance with a statement from me that I am pursuing litigation for incorrect credit reporting. Citi approved $2,800 with scores in the 705-730 range.
