Dispute Questions with CA: Next Step?

Hello. I live in Calofirnia and have recently disputed all my CA account with every major credit bureau. Since this is my first attempt at repairing my credit, I did this online to fire what I have heard termed a "shotgun" effect with all of the CRA's.

Today, I got my first letter from a CA (MCM) and they are asking me for assistance to reach a resolution. They want me to forward any paperwork I have to them. The last payment I made on the accounts in question was July of 2001. They are well past the SOL in Caliornia.

My thinking is I should NOT even contact the CA because I disputed this with the CRA's...So if they cannot provide the CRA with the documentation then item should be removed from my credit report.. For now, the CA said they have reported the item "Disputed" with all of the major CRA's. I believe they will be forced to delete the item and they are grabbing at straws right now.

I would appreciate any advice from people that have been in this type of situation. Thank you all. This website is really a great resource to figure out all the nasty little secrets about our credit that nobody tells us about.

If the CA doesn't verify with the CRA, then the CRA is obligated to delete the account from my credit record. How many days do they have to verify? Good question...I'm sure the answer is here on thsi site. Whatever it is, it shouldn't be more than 90 days.

However, from what I've read there are some nasty CA's out there and it may show up on your credit report again with more recent dates, which have a greater negative impact on your credit score.

Honestly, I think the world would be better off if only OC's were allowed to hit your credit report. I am firm believer that there is a place for CA's, but they should not have the authority to do ANYTHING to our credit reports. I wish that type of legislation would be brought up, because of all the deceitful and fraudulent tactics used by CA's against the consumers. As far I am aware there is no license required to open up your own CA, although it may vary from state to state. It is totally ridiculous.
