My name is Paul. I am from East Texas. I happened to be so lucky to stumble upon this website. It has been so very helpful for me. By reading your posts and learning from your experiences I have successfully been able to get over 7 items off of my credit report! My credit score currently is 598 for Experian and 586 for Equifax.

I'm currently trying to get pre-approved to buy a home(asking price is 42,500). I thought for sure I was gonna get a loan yesterday, as the loan officer seemed real confident that I should be able to get a home loan considering that I've been at my job for as long as I have and having no bankruptcies, tax liens, etc.... He was gonna run my credit to see if I would qualify for an FHA loan, but then he asked for my wife's name and info. Since I am the only one with a job in my household I told him that I only want myself on the loan(also her credit is even worse than mine). He told me that I won't get a loan anywhere unless both of us were on it because we live in Texas (community state). I somehow believe that I can get a loan with only me on it, so I will continue to shop around until I find it!!!!

Anyways, this is my story!!! Just wanted to say hello and thanks to all of you for your input and hard work!!!

Six months ago I was in a similar situation as you are, with similar scores. I got "pre-approved" for a home loan through an aquaintance of my sister's who pulled a bait and switch on me. She promised me I would get a 9% loan with closing costs about $10K. When we found the house we wanted and got close to closing, she jacked up the rate to 12.5% and est. closing costs of $14K!!! Be real careful out there!!! On this forum you will find a sub-section on Mortgages. Go there and read the posts from "Firstsource". His name is Charles, and he helped me get my house at the original estimated costs. He is very honest and up front about everything. Check with him before signing anything! His website is www.bestmortgageinfo.com

Oh, and welcome to the club! :D
