Ardellw
I sent a C&D letter to a collection co. for a Capital One debt because they failed to validate after two letters requesting them to (Northland). Yesterday I get a letter from Cap One thanking me for contacting them and sorry to hear of my financial challenges (??????) and it is an understandably difficult time for me and to let me know that they welcome the opportunity to work directly with me to reach an agreeable solution regarding my account. They further said that they removed my phone number from their list and have stopped written communications regarding the collection of the debt. They also say that they "verified" that the information on my credit bureau report matches the information on their systems. Hmph!!!!!Well, I didn't contact them. So what happened? If I don't call them, what will they do? Sell to yet another collection agency? Not sure how to proceed. Need advice. Thank you!!!
CreditLawGuru
sounds like the CA returned the account to the OC
IHateCAs
Now would be a good time to work out a favorable settlement.
astiman
Normally I don't advocate settling, but I agree with the poster suggesting it.Crap 1 normally doesnt give you a second chance. I would contact their exec office DIRECTLY, CMRR to see what can be worked out.....you might start at 35% and see if they will bite....I once settled with them for 60%, before I knew better.Good luck. gypsie
I second that agreed,Settling with Crap one will be a relief- Trust me - They are "sticklers" about keeping info on your CR, not to mention bad about reaging- again- I've had experience.Get rid of them- or they will continue to be the P in your A
Ahntara
Cap One is usually difficult to deal with, highly likely to sue, experienced and dedicated to poisoning CR's even on paid accounts. I agree that now is your best time to negotiate payment, if that's what you choose...just go into the process with your eyes open.

RSB
sounds like the CA returned the account to the OCSo, is Capital One related to Providan and/or Washington Mutual?
retmar
They are not related. Do remember Providian got "spanked" a short time back for their actions, mainly in marketing matters, if I remember right.WaMu are just "ADUB's", period. As to Crap 1, do realize they are now involved in a class action for their reporting as they do. I'll see if we have the letter still as we have two accounts with them (soon to be closed) and received one as we are automatically a part of it unless we beg out. If I can find it, I'll post the name and what it is about.
