Hi folks,

Just got to decompress a bit...here's what's been going on with my attempt to settle a "Sprint PCS" debt that went to "West Asset Management." It isn't going well, I guess I am just not a good negotiator. Here is what has gone on to date...remember, we're trying to qualify for a refi and need -0- balances on the debts that are 3 yrs of age or younger. Just a side note, I DO NOT HAVE TIME TO ONLY WORK WITH THEM BY LETTER FORM. So, sorry-I committed a consumer no-no, I contacted the collection companies.

2/9/2007 Contacted via "form" online at their website, West Asset Management to discuss settlement arrangements.

2/12/2007 Received call from West Asset Management from Mrs. Robinson. I asked her if it would be possible to pay in exchange for deletion from credit report, she said "no." I let her know that I would speak to DH and call later to see if it was worth our while. *Called back to ask if they had record of credit for turning in David's phone, they said they saw none.

Mrs. Robinson called back to offer settlemet of 155.10, however that won't do me any good because they aren't willing to report that I owe a -0- balance.

2/12/2007 Called Sprint PCS, spoke to Jeff. 310.61. I asked if he was showing credit for David's phone we'd mailed in and he gave us another number to call in their "finance" dept. 800-808-1336. He said I could try asking them how I could arrange payment/credit reporting negotiating. When I tried to call, it wouldn't allow me access because the number had been recycled.

2/12/2007 Filled out a form at www.sprintpcs.com hoping for feedback from someone able to negotiate. Got an automated response via e-mail.

2/12/2007 Received automated response from Sprint PCS that they had received my feedback form.

2/13/2007 Received response indicating they needed the acct number along with the original Sprint PCS phone number.

2/13/2007 I responded with needed information.

2/14/2007 The response we got was that it was "now with collections and to call their finance department." When I tried to call their finance department, it would not allow access.

2/16/2007 Attempted to call finance department. Was not allowed access because the number now belongs to someone else and they aren't late w/ their payment. The automated service did not ask for account number.

2/16/2007 Called their regular customer care line at 888-211-4727. Asked a customer rep "Katrina" for their finance department, was transferred and than I heard nothing. Because I was on my cell phone, I had to hang up and call back *7 min had gone by. Called via landline, was placed on hold, than was hung up on.

2/16/2007 Called back their regular customer care line at 888-211-4727. Was placed on hold w/ music. Mary picked up and said, "Hang on, I'll transfer you over." When she tried, it wouldn't allow her to do this. She then gave me the agencies number who has this account, but again-I was told to contact Sprint PCS to ask about the Sprint buyback program to see whether or not it had been credited. We had sent David's phone in for a 50.00 credit.

ARGH!!!

wow, I certainly do not intend to make light of your frustration, but I work for a mortgage lender and we refi folks everday with, new debt, collections, even judgements. Obviously the more junk we have to deal with, the higher the rate and points etc but a small debt like that would not keep us from doing your refi and if thats the only derog you had you'd get good rate and terms and we'd just pay them at closing. I know I'm commenting without full info but I just hope your lender isn't taking you for a ride!

It's nice to know that this ONE wouldn't keep us from a REFI. But the truth is, we have a couple others and due to some financial hardship (job losses) we do have mortgage lates. :(

Anyway...thanks though.

Ah.. ok , sorry, thats why I qualified my answer w/out full info. yeah the mtg lates are what hurts. We can deal almost painlessly with everything else. and believe me I had to learn the hard way myself that the mtg comes 1st no matter what! I'm not even CLOSE to refi yet , I am hanging around this site arming myself for the battle I know is coming ,just hoping to get the CR close to a refi one day!

..if we don't REFI within the next 6 months we'll either have to sell our home or risk losing it and file a BK. SO...not much choice but to try for a REFI. All I know is I can't afford another 400.00 increase in payments.

one last comment and I'll shut up. If you do pay them and report the fraud, your lender should be able to include a letter of explanation for that .

I was told that the overall outcome wanted/needed was -0- balances on those collection accts. AND that we need to pay our mortgage on time of course!
