I recently started to get calls from NorthStar Location Services. I never pickup 1800 numbers, they left me a voice mail saying i need to call them as it is urgent and refer the XXXXXX number at extension so and so. I am really freaked out about what the reason could be. I have collection accounts on my CR. Is this realted to collection activity? Should I call them to found out whats the fuss is all about or should I just ignore it? Did they ever try to contact through mail or do they just call? Please let me know your experiences with NorthStar if you had any.

Thanks in Advance

Don't call the number. Many CAs do this to "capture" your number in their system. They're a collection agency. A search for them brought this up:

Northstar Location Services

Credit2fly, I have no experiences with NorthStar. But I am with you. I have collections too, but I do not freak out if a CA calls. I never pickup 1800 numbers and never return their calls. Let them leave messages all week long, if they like. There is nothing to freak out for. DO NOT allow them to intimidate you.

BTW Have you checked your CRs lately? If a CA sells an account, a new CA may start calling, reporting or sending letters. There might be a new CA reporting.

If anything is so "important" to them, they can mail a letter. I require everything to be in writing anyway, so that I can rack up a few FCRA and state violation$$$. :)

~~~Calm down and take it easy.
I monitor my CR using true credit. I haven't seen a record of NorthStar on my CR except the phone calls from them. I will wait until I get it in writing :)
Thank you June.
Reminder, check the "Inquiries" section, very carefully.
I find that sometimes the CA will "Inquire" (or pull) under one name and "Report" under another and yet another. They may have numerous a/k/a's or d/b/a's. They are slick. Do some research or perhaps someone here knows their other company names, if any.
Finally I got a letter from NorthStar in writing couple of days ago. This is from an old discover card thats charged off 3 and 1/2 years ago. They are offering a **Special Settlement Offer** (heading) which states to make 1 payment of $628.25(40%) before 04/26/2007 or 2 payments of $353.39 (45%) of the orignial amount before 05/26/2007. The actual limit on the card is $1000 and the total balance with their late fees and etc is 1570.63. When I stopped paying them due to financial problems, the balance was about $800. NorthStar left a meesage on my cell stating that they are dealing with a time sesitive matter and I have call them ASAP to deal with the time sensitive. Looks like this is just an another hoax by them to bend me and get the money from me. I rather pay the OC, not these JDB's. They are not mentioning that they own the account but are saying that they are authorized by Discover to offer the opportunity to settle my account.
I am going to DV them and see what happens from there. Do you guys think there is a chance of going to court from them? Should I contact Discover and deal with them. Any thoughts/inputs who dealt with DISCOVER appreciated. Sorry for the long post. Wanted to keep it simple, but could not.
I got a reply from NorthStar for my dispute. The letter states as follows.
Please be advised that we have notified our client(which is Discover) regarding your concerns and have consequently returned the account back to them for appropriate handling.
If you should have any other questions relative to this account, please contact the above mentioned client (DISCOVER).
I am happy that I got North Star off my back. What should be the next course of action for me to deal with DISCOVER. Will I be expecting a LAW Suit from discover? Should I try to get a PFD with DISCOVER? What are your experiences with DISCOVER? Any ideas or suggestions are welcome. Thank you all for the hlep.
Just udated my TC report and noticed that Discover udated the report with the remarks:
Experian] Customer disputed account - reported by subscriber.
Unpaid balance reported as a loss by the credit grantor
Any thoughts on this. I am really confused. I never disputed with Discover but I DV'ed the CA who tried to collect on behalf of Discover. What shall I do?
