crnbread73
Just another ? from a newbie... If there is something that is past the SOL how do you dispute it? Basically I am asking is how do you word the letter of dispute? Do you acknowledge to the CRA that is is legit but out of SOL or do you just say I am disputing the validity of this entry? What do I do?
lookinup
SOL and the reporting period allowed on CRAs are two different things. So just because something is out of SOL doesn't have any meaning for whether or not it appears on your CRs.SOL means the period of time a creditor has to sue you before such a suit is time-barred. This varies by state and by kind of debt, so check your state's statutes. The period the CRAs use for reporting negative information is 7 or 7.5 years. This may be more or less than the SOL for a particular debt.

divemedic
You haven't read that here. In all but 2 states, a CA may continue to collect on old, out of statute debts.
