whitknee
I have just recently decided to get serious about my financial situation, and the first step is fixing my credit. I'm only 20 so I feel like I'm in a good position to get my debt wiped out and start out w/a clean slate (more or less). I owe $1559 to 5 different collection agencies, ALL for unpaid medical bills that were incurred while I was uninsured (all are between about a year and a year and a half old) and due to that my credit score is horrible--502.After reading a ton of stuff on creditinfocenter.com and this forum, I went ahead and disputed all of the CA entries online (via Experian, they were the only CRA I managed to get a free report from). Now I guess I wait 30 days to see what happens--but I am willing to bet all of them will be verified (rightly so, they're all valid). I have $1100 coming to me from my tax refund and hope to use that to pay everything off--from what I have read, you can usually negotiate w/the CA and pay less than what you actually owe (and I have also read extensively about how you MUST get everything in writing, i.e. that they will accept $xxx as a full payment for the original debt of $xxxx and will remove all entries from your credit report, etc.).If anyone has any advice/words of wisdom or encouragement they will be taken to heart and much appreciated! I am hoping to get a new car within the next year or so, and obviously need to improve my credit score so I can get a halfway decent interest rate. Mostly I just want to get this stuff taken care of so it's not hanging over my head. Thanks for reading and sorry if I am violating any rules/guidelines by posting this--I read as much stuff as I could on this site & forum and am feeling quite overloaded with information
lyle7289
You can get your remaining reports from annualcreditreport.comYou are allowed 1 free report from each CRA a year. Dispute your collection accounts and see what happens. From there, follow the primer listed in the stickies and you will be on your way!!Oh, by the way, WELCOME!!
