:tempted: Ok I am in deep doodooo with Amex from my college days. I so want to get the American Express card again ::drool::

I called american express and they told me the Oasis programis is a one time deal. If you don't accept when they offer it to you, it will never be offered again.

For me, I will get an Optima card the credit line will be $500. That credit line will never increase xrulesx:<img src=:'> :thefinger: The interest rate with be 14.99 + prime which is 8% so interest rate about 23%.:moon:

Later on, I can apply for other cards and my orange strips will be lifted ( basically they will remove me from their xsnakeyx*coilme*xwormx list) and I will get the same offer as others.

Well they made the decision for me I havee one month to pay the piper or bye bye forever.

Go for it!!!

:twothumbsup::twothumbsup:

I'm just an AU on my DH's AmEx, but I just LOVE the prestige I feel when I pull it out to use it.... Like the clerk is thinking "oh, it's AMEX and not one of "those" Cards".

Like I should care what the clerk is thinking..... but hey, it's a great boost for the "ol" self esteem

::ImInLove:: I heart AMEX

We're recent Optima card folks to. I just paid them and am now awaiting the application process. :)

I didn't know they'd never increase the CL though. But maybe it's similar to the Chevron rebuilder thing anyway and if you can qualify for their other cards down the road, you can maybe close the Optima.

good luck elyse!!!:yahoo: Thanks Gypsie, I will.

I am glad you accepted the offer. I called them in the past and they made the offer but it was not in writing. Now this last lady says she will send the info out to me. I really hope they don't take my money and don't follow through. I better wait a few day to receive the application before I start sending my money. :roll: oh yea I forgot it is their money.

I wonder how long before they consider an applicant for another card.

If I'm not working within the "oasis program" she said I could pay and them wait about a year and then apply for a new card. At that time, the chance of approval would be 50/50 :cry::-(88-)

Word to the wise:

When I was young and dumb, I was in the program in 1999 and made one late payment. Amex cancelled the Oasis Optima card for me. I called them and they were nasty. No more Amex for me. :shock:

So, keep that in mind. It's a really good look if you do the right thing with it.

Getting any recent lates while doing repair is a killer....

From what I hear, Oasis is a one chance opportunity--u screw it up and u maybe done forever...

I simply looked at it as an opportunity to add another TL w/o getting any INQs

Plus....if they positively reage the act...that will result in a nice FICO boost.

Personally, I don't know why people swoon after AMEX like they do. The 'prestige' thing is justl marketing, kinda like Victoria's Secret (great marketing, crappy bras).

Amex has been one of the worst creditors to deal with over the years. They run a close second to Cap One, IMHO, and should be avoided like the plague.

Anthara--- not swooning...just a backdoor opportunity to get back in with a prime lender months or a full year before I can do it own my own merit.

Besides that? I travel overseas at least twice a year (leave for asia this Friday)--Amex does carry alot of weight internationally..expecially the platinum card...but I am at least 2 years away

Chilton-I've done some reading on the other board...it appears that sometimes last year, AMEX went through reaged some Oasis accts...now I think it is mostly from graduated accts....one u graduate from the program, all the new cards from amex get your orig app date
