takeahike
In trying to improve my credit score, should I ask to have old (years ago -- like 90's and early 00's) credit accounts closed, or will closing them and therefore getting rid of "available credit" lower my score? Many of them say "Open/Never Late." I haven't used any of them in at least 5 years, and don't intend to use them ever in the future. They're dept. and specialty store cards (e.g., Pier 1, etc.). Thanks!
divemedic
keep them. Old positives are good for you.
willingtocope
Its really tough to be 100% accurate about such things because every situation is unique...but...in general...old, unused accounts have little effect one way or another. Yes, it does increase available credit, but it also decreases utilization...don't sweat these...
willingtocope
And, like Dive says, old positives are basically good....
