Credit Repair Companies- Good or Bad?

Hello everyone. I have been watching this forum for some time now, and I am just amazed at all of the info that is provided here. Let me first start off and say that I have been doing Credit Repair for almost five years. And I will be the first to say that it works. I started doing credit repair while I worked for a law firm( no I'm not an attorney), and I would have to type up all of the disputes and paperwork to send to the CRA's. After doing this for a year or so I decided to try and do it on my own. The lawyers were charging their clients up to $5000 to remove negatives! I experimented on my husband's credit. And low and behold I was able to delete several items. Anyway to make a long story short, since that time I have been able to remove 1356 inquiries, 831 collection items, 647 30,60,90's, 102 chargeoff's, 23 bk's, 11 tax liens, and 1 child support. I have not had as much luck removing the Bk's and tax leins as I have with the other negative items. And for the child support, after removing the first one I refuse to remove them now.

I know that most people are going to say that credit repair companies are rip offs, and frauds, and I will agree for the most part. There are several companies that will just take your money and run, or they will completely damage your credit. I follow a strict set of guidelines, and have worked very hard to have satisfied clients. The first thing that I inform them is that they have the right to challenge items on their own, it could just be as simple as writing a few letters. Alot of them have tried on their own, but they got tired of the hassle. I work just as hard doing their credit repair as I did my husband's. I barely started doing my own credit repair and it is improving month by month. I am not an expert at this, and I even still have questions on this matter.

If anyone might need some help with their credit repair please let me know.(free of charge, of course!) I would be happy to assist.

Welcome to the forum! :)++

I'm curious - I know you say you "refuse" to help people remove child support from their CRs, but maybe you'd change your mind after reading my story:

If you do change your mind, any opinions on what I could do would be appreciated.

Thanks for the welcome. My first and only child support case was for $40,000.00. This guy was a deadbeat dad. I disputed the tradeline, not really thinking that anything would happen, but to my surprise, and disgust it was removed. As a young mother of 5 children, I felt that I was taking away from the kids. I new what it was like to be owed childsupport from the other parent. So, I decided that I would no longer dispute them. I read your situation, and sympathize with you. Forums really aren't the place to discuss private matters but if you would like, you may email me. I wll try and help you. I won't do it though. Just offer you some help.

well, that's fine..

but, you're not actually taking away from the kids. He still owes that money and whether or not it shows up on his credit report, there may even be an arrest warrant out for him already, depending on the state.

If he is the deadbeat you say he is, then he wouldn't have paid anyway.

But I believe you're right in not wanting to make it easier for him by removing it from his CR, I would hate to think it allowed him to go out and buy a brand new Harley Davidson while the kids were doing without necessities.

:private: No offense Mrs. Topot, but why would someone simply hand over personal information to someone who shows up on an internet forum claiming they will help for free? :urcrazy:

You maybe the most honest person this side of the Mississippi, but come on Mrs.Topot. This is the reason ID theft is increasing. And no, Mrs.Topot I am not accusing you of anything but this is after all the internet.

And for those discouraged, I too experimented with my own credit repair and so have most the members here, please you can mail your own letters. She can't do anything for you that you can't do for yourself.

This topic has been beat up so many times.......NOTHING, and I mean nothing is EVER FREE!!

Advice is one thing, doing your credit repair for you, sending out letters for you, I don't think so.

She stated that there are people who would rather not deal with the hassle and I believe that to be true and would rather pay someone to do it than go through the fuss. Think of it this way, we could all change our own oil, but some choose to pay to have it done. you could research on-line the how's and what's and do it yourself, right?

Remember folks, KNOWLEDGE is power!!

Unfortunetly for the OP, this forum is not for solicitation of services and is dedicated to helping people help themselves. Every few months there is someone that tries and is DENIED.

Gotta love the persistance though......

Just my 2 cents ;)

Sorry, but I don't follow you. I have never violated any laws, nor am I practicing any law. I advise everyone that I am neither an attorney nor am I an expert when it comes to these matters. And just to set the record straight here, I was not solicitating any new clients. I offered my assistance if someone should need it. That did not mean that I would do their credit repair for them. It ment that I would offer assistance and advice if they needed it.

Also, I did not ask for anyone's personal info. I deal every day with people that have been identity theft victims. So I know what kind of damage it can cause. I stated that forums are not the place to discuss private matters. I did not ask for her to send me her personal info.

Sorry if everyone thought that I was soliciting clients, but that is not the case here. I offered my assistance if anyone needed it. I did not offer to do anyone's credit repair for them.

well thats what everyone does on this site, offer their own experiences and expertise in a discussion forum in the spirit of helping others. Your post did come off somewhat as a solicitation. What I take from this board is that each individual should read extensively, digest what each poster has said, then do your own research and make your own informed decisions based on your own situation and the laws and procedures in your own jurisdiction. This is not a board for those who don't have the wherewithall or inclination to help themselves(DIYS). I hope I don't speak out of turn when I say that the founders of this board intended for this to be an open forum, not a referral for individual or one-on-one assistance. I am sure your input will be welcome if given in the intended format.
