jerseyru
I received a letter in the mail today from MRS Associates (Collecting for Capital One) basically trying to negotiate a settlement. Here is what it saidYou Owe: $727.94option 1 45% off so you only pay $400.37 to pay off must receive 3/15 opt 2 35% $473.16 pay off 3/26opt3 40% $436.76 or 2 payment so 3/15 and 4/13If I pay them will Capital One show paid as agreed on my credit report? Do you think they will be willing to do PFD? MRS associates does not show up on my credit report. Please help. Thanks!
mommabear
A PFD is unlikely. I have dealt with them. I now have them off my back, but I also have the yucky CR to show for it.And Capital One will not show paid as agreed. It will be charged off/paid in settlement.I am fighting this right now.You may have better luck than me though. You came here first. I didn't. I just paid them because I let them scare me...now I get to try and fix it all.
someonesomewhere
I received a letter in the mail today from MRS Associates...If I pay them will Capital One show paid as agreed on my credit report?Almost certainly not. It will show a zero balance, but it will still show as a collection and still ding your credit score.I have an account with AMEX that I PIF, after it went to collections. Didn't even try to PFD. Dopey me. I'm trying to Goodwill it now, but I suspect that won't work.Do NOT pay off a debt on the hope and prayer that the OC or CA will mark it paid as agreed when it's already in collection.Send a DV letter to MRS Associates. CMRRR.If you have not already done so, pull all three CRs. It's free once a year at annualcreditreport.comRead the Admin's DV flowchart.http://www.creditinfocenter.com/rebuild/debt_validation_workflow.shtml

jerseyru
I don't even see MRS Associates on my credit report, so I can't dispute the tradeline. I see the Cap One tradeline .

Thanks! The FDCPA violations I see just from what you wrote . . . 1692e(2), f(1), and if I looked at the letter, I am sure there are others.DO NOT PAY MRS! Only deal with Crap 1 if you wish, but they will not delete anything off your CR, because they DON'T HAVE TO DO ANYTHING FOR YOU.Don't worry, MRS will show up eventually. DV them immiediately. A) Not yours. (The amount stated is not the amount that is owed). Validate the debt. (Prove that the amount they state that is owed is yours). someonesomewhere
Since you received the letter, as qtptute said eventually it will show up on your CR. You still want to DV it right away. Here's a link to some commonly used abbreviations.http://www.debt-consolidation-credit-repair-service.com/forums/showthread.php?t=247970&highlight=abbreviationsAlso, do a search for the 1-2 punch. Dispute it with the CRA a few days after mailing off your DV.
