rm2738
I had a derogatory account removed from experian and my score has not changed on TC. Haven't checked my FICO, but I can't imagine that changing if my TC EXP score didn't change. Is that somewhat safe to assume? I know we are constantly talking about the difference in scores, but it seems to be different from person to person. Some people have higher FICO and others have higher FAKO? lyle7289
This is a tuff one and can be frustrating so bare with me....If the account was "old" it showed credit history on your overall credit profile. Once remove, that portion of the history was removed as well shortening your credit history profile. The older the Derog account, the less of a negative impact on your score. Please, don't get me wrong, all derogs affect your score in a negative way and it is a good thing to remove them from your file. It is just that an older derog getting removed may not affect your score as a recent one. You hear on this board time and time again about Joe Blow incresing his score by 30-50 points by getting a major derog removed. This is usually caused by a recently established collection account getting removed.I hope this cleared thing up for you. And remember that TC has a differnet scoring model than FICO and getting ANY derog removed is a GOOD thing!!

thomassl
Potential creditors do not look at "FAKO" scores. They look at the "FICO" scores! Usually when a derogatory item drops from your report, you will not see an immediate increase in your score. Most times you score goes down. For instance, if you applied for credit recently, your score drops. Applying for credit should not be a derogatory but your score changes just the same. If a person had a Chapter 13 bankruptcy and it falls off after the 7 years, their score drops and they are not placed in a different class. They have moved to the top of the Chapter 13 class and because it is now removed, they have moved to the bottom of the next upper class. You will see an increase but as I said, it's not immediate. B4 the reinsertion I had spent a few months on this site learning, so when it came back, I knew how to handle it. Thanks for the input!

When my file was split and I lost all the baddies, my TC equifax score did not change but my FICO gain about 100 points--- went to over 750. Until you check that FICO you don't really know the effect. If no change, just be happy that thing is gone.
divemedic
Also- say you have 3 collections on your report- getting rid of one will not help your score much. The score explanation says it all:The score evaluates whenever there is derogatory public record or collection agency reference on your credit bureau report. Studies reveal that consumers with previous late payments are much more likely to miss payments in the future. However, as these items age and fall off the credit bureau report, their impact on the score will gradually decrease. (Most derogatory public records and collection items stay on your report for no more than seven years; there are other items that could remain longer.)
