dancerma
I disputed a an Account with Merrick back in January with all the CRAs and it came back as verified. I then asked the OC, Merrick for verification of the debt and they haven't responded. They did however comeback with a debt elimination offer of 60%. The amount isn't huge and I'd like to get rid of this so I was thinking about a counteroffer to them of slightly less and a deletion of this account/or never late(i'm leaning towards deletion.) I'm just not sure what road to take, the debt elimination, even though it's past the SOL or step #2, which I'm not sure what that is when the OC doesn't respond to the request for verification of debt. Can somebody please guide me as to what they think is the best approach, and if it's not the debt offer, what would be step 2?thanks
elyse449
I'm operating off the assumption that this is your debt.I know OC's aren't bound by FDCPA rules. If it were me and since this acct is still with an OC (not a collection agency for example) I'd go ahead and bend over backwards to settle this out. Definitely negotiate the reporting on your credit file. And remember, if you settle this debt-and if the amount is over 600.00, you'll get a 1099 next year for your taxes. Be careful about your verbiage....often times they'll settle for the lesser amount and sell the remainder to a collection agency. So, word your agreement carefully.Elyse
