someonesomewhere 568
Welcome Newbie!Read all of this and all the links before taking ANY action.First, take a deep breath and then let it out. Relax. This is a marathon not a 100 meter dash, and you're no where near Athens, Pheidippides. If you have not already done so, go here. No, really. Click here.OK, well at least read this, particularly if online forums aren't your thing. And please do by all means read this. All both or more pages. There's a lot of information, jargon, abbreviations and acronyms in here, and it takes a bit of time and exposure to understand them. Once you know the words represented by the abbreviation or acronym, then you can start understanding what the words behind the abbreviation or acronym mean. Some that you'll see a lot are OC, CA, DV and PFD.If you have not already done so, pull your Credit Report (CR) from each Credit Reporting Agency (CRA). There are three major ones and a number of minor ones. Let's focus on the Big 3: Equifax (EQ), Experian (EX), and Trans Union (TU).Every 12 months, you are entitled to a free copy of your CR. If you have not already done so in the past 12 months, go to annualcreditreport.com and request all three CRs. Other websites may charge you. Use annualcreditreport.com. It's free.Request EX and TU online, but call the toll free number and request a paper copy of your EQ CR. It will be mailed to you. EQ still seems to have "issues" with online initial requests. Before you set about disputing anything, online or via Certifed Mail Return Receipt Requested (CMRRR), read this. Every one or more pages.Once more breath, relax, and again welcome.

520ErTech 10
Thanks for the insight. I just joined today. A single mom who has been divorced for 6 years. I am sorry to admit that I had no idea until I decided I wanted to buy a car. I have tried everything from debt consolidation firms to having a friend who is a finanical advisor tell me "Don't pay them, they will fall off." I had no idea. Feel so overwhelmed I don't know where to begin. I did obtain a 3-in-1 from your creditreport.com I guess one day at a time.
gator1999 10
What happens in this case if I am not the custodial parent and they never billed claiming no insurance was on file(when it was) and then I pull my CR and it's on my credit and not my son's mom credit...she took him and signed any paperwork necessary...can she put me down as the responsible party?
