SecretAgentWoman
I'm curious. Since you can dispute a payment on a CC, and/or just close and reopen another number, I thought it might be reasonably safer. Of course, maybe they know this and would never accept credit card payment.Anyone know?
willingtocope
I'm not absolutely sure what you're asking...are you trying to make sure that a CA does try to charge you more than you agreed to?
PolarBearnCO
Sounds like I'm in a better situation than you. I'm an AU on a $17K Chase Visa. They are always sending us blank checks. The latest was 0.82% for 9 months with a $99 trans fee.If I ever get around to paying off my medical bills that are in collections, I'll probably just write myself a check, then get money orders and mail them Registered via USPS. Cheap interest rate, plenty of time to pay it off, etc. I just need to keep waiting for the collectors to contact me ready to settle for a PFD. I'll accept nothing less, as paying them would tank my scores for 6-24 months. Darn waiting! Hate to wait. They'll be on the reports for 4 more years. Would rather pay 'em if they'd delete 'em.Back to your Q, you are always taking a chance if you send them "information payments." I called and paid 3 collections over the phone with my debit card # before I found this site. No nasty issues resulted. Two were updated paid collections, one was deleted (she offered without me asking), and nothing extra was charged. Personally, I believe it's ok to pay over phone, as long as you have terms agreed upon in writing first.

Okay, once in awhile, there will be an honest, upstanding citizen who just wants a job and is trying to be nice.But...success in their business depends upon ATTITUDE. They're better than we are. They're louder than we are. We're the bad guys that need to be taught a lesson. And, besides, they've got their quotas to make...their bonus' to collect. Who's gonna know if they put through a little extra on the debit card? Some dead beat? Never...never...give them the chance. If you're gonna pay a CA or JDB (a mistake to begin with), get a cashier's check or money order. Period.
