Guest rounders
I have recently found out that there are several items on my credit report that are not me. Address, name spellings, ssn variations, loans for houses, cars, credit cards. About $30,000 in debt that is not me. I dont know if this is identity theft or the grouping of others peoples stuff on my cr. I have a very common name. So with this many errors should i mail a copy of my cr to the cra with the errors highlighted or what? Completely new to this and I dont know where to start. I tried to get a loan for a house and when I was denied I investigated. I have never had a loan or credit card. Thanks for your help.
newbie7069
It may be identity theft but it may also just be messed up reporting. I would just start out by sending a letter to all 3 CRAs include copies of your social security card and drivers license and state the facts as they are. Tell them that you have never had a loan or credit card and have never had any reason to look at your credit report prior to being denied a mortgage. List all incorrect addresses, social security variations and tradelines and request that these items be removed. Send these letters certified mail and keep copies of everything you send them! Now, the CRAs will have 30 days to respond to your request. After they send you back their results, look over your CRs again. If it they still have items on there that you know do not belong to you, then you need follow the steps for Identity Theft. There is another forum on here dedicated to that.I'm not an expert on identity theft by any means, so hopefully an expert will chime in if I am leading you astray. But in the meantime, welcome to the board!Use the search engine, you'll find tons of information that will help you get through this.Good luck!
