ZORG
Now that I have begun the process of repairing my credit I have begun to get numerous "Pre-Qualified" credit offers in the mail.Is this normal? And if so, how are all of these companies discovering that I am working on cleaning up my credit? Are they doing soft pulls of my report? Or could the credit reporting agencies be giving out my name and address as a person who might be a good candidate for new credit account?I'm really curious about this. Does anyone have any solid answers:?: Thanks for reading.~Z
newbie7069
Pre-qualified and preapproved are a different ballgame...and preapproved doesn't always mean you will for sure get the card But yes, the CRAs give your name and address info to the credit companies as you are repairing. You are proabably just listed in a bulk group of people who may qualify for their products. These creditors have not actually seen your CR at least not in its entirity. At least that's how I think it works But also beware of CAs that will begin to pop out of the woodwork as start making progress as well.
ZORG
OK. CRA's should not be permitted to give (or sell) my contact information just because I have begun to "fix" my credit. Can I report the issue to any agency and put a stop to this?
stormywsmn
I believe you can opt out through each of the cra's so they do not give or sell your info.

Tried
You can also do it thru come of the CRA's site, but I prefered to go straight thru the FTC phone number, it does all the CRA's at one time. It really works, I stopped getting the offers a few weeks after I did it.FTC Opt-Out List 1-888-5-OPTOUThttp://www.ftc.gov/opa/2005/07/prescreenoptout.htmI also registered for the Do Not Call list and it eliminated all those solicitation calls, of course you can still get solicitation calls from your ie: your bank, phone co, etc.FTC Do Not Call List 1-888-382-1222http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2003/12/chasednc.htm
