gravelgirl66
Bumping does work. I had 19 TU inquiries, and I have bumped it down to 3. Yes it does work.... BUT..... Now I have a split file with Equifax...And it is was WORSE than the measily inquiries I had... I have diffrent files... everything is all messed up, stuff removed years ago.. suddenly reappearing... and they WONT merge the file back together, b/c its too large due to bumping..... I have to get alot of those soft inquiries off.... so weigh the risks before you go updating away... yes it works, and no you may not ALWAYS get a split file... but I NEVER Thought it would happen to me... and now I AM IN HELL... trying to fix it! elyse449
Good to know! I haven't utilized any sort of "bumping" methods myself, but this is great information. Thanks for sharing it.Elyse
lyle7289
It was my understanding that bumping only works for TU. Are you using TrueCredit? To remove inquiries, bumping only works for TU. The soft pulls you do on TC affect all three CRA's. The soft pulls show on all three when you recieve a hard copy of your reports.

chilton1
Bumping works for both Equifax and Transunion. I bumped off all the equifax inquires and even had a spit file in the process. I got that fixed and i have continued to bump-- down to 2 on TU (one from 2 days ago). I will pull once per week once the TU inquires are gone.

gravelgirl66
I know that it has been discussed 500 million times, but I was only making a post for the New oNes. who dont go out and search. They are thinking that it is some miracle wonder cure, and I just wanted to warn them in advance, that that is not always the case!Geez... light en up some-- since you saw it was about "bumping" why even bother reading or posting... since you know the info... what side of the bed did you get of? You could have just added this to the other one. Which I've just done.Second of all, I was pointing out that the "advance warning" about this was already here... and that this should be taken as a cautionary tale to those who don't search first before doing things. Like I'm assuming you didn't. Basically the reason for your post was the reason for the others that already came before it. It wasn't a revelation. It's like someone posting "Oh my God!!! I just found out that Capital One doesn't report credit limits!! Everyone! Be careful of this!!" Of course people are going to say "Um, no sh*t..."However, thank you for sharing your experience and *confirming* what we've been telling people all along... that bumping can be a double-edged sword, and to be prepared for the downside because there may be one. That downside can be way worse than having inquiries on your report because EQ is infamous for being difficult to deal with on split files. It can take forever to get them to even admit that you have one!!(And I "bother" reading threads because I need to make sure that proper advice is being given, and to see if there are questions in the thread that need answering.) VonAngel (aka EarthAngel)
OMG...is there SOME way to tie this to the ORIGINAL thread?? Especially for the newbies, this new thread will completely throw them for a loop. If I didn't just read the thread that is being referred to (kinda)...I wouldn't have a clue as to what the OP is talking about.Edited to add: Ignore my post please. Didn't realize LNY had already combined the 2 threads.
LNY
Never had a problem with either choppage or split files when I was bumping INQs off EQ. Not sure what I did right. It all depends on the size of your file. It's a crapshoot.
cajunbulldog
 You mods over here are getting bad as creditboards.I know you weary of seeing the same threads.Try to think back in the past when you were a scared newbie.I hardly post here or cb because I am more than fed up with getting no advice or getting walked on by a mod saying you are wrong because you are a newbie. We all need to stop and realize that even though a person may be a newbie, they may have skills that they can bring to board. If they are wrong, gently remind them.A mild rebuke gives them incentive to learn.A public thrashing does not!

You need to remember that the mods here (as well as several other brave souls) have already cleaned up their credit and stick around to help guide others. I have only been here for about a year, but even I roll my eyes every time I see a question about where to pull reports, or bumpage, etc. I know that if I have seen enough of these questions in the past year, then those who have been here for 3+ have to have seen a zillion. It is especially exhausting in that you know that there was no way that they searched for the answer prior to posting the question.I do think that maybe someone should write up a sticky regarding bumpage and pulling reports just because the questions get asked so often. But on the flip side of that, I can't count how many times I have seen posts having to refer people to the stickies already there.
shan2themax
I can't say that I have seen meanness, but I can say... there are thousands of posts, and I have looked through them and sometimes I cant find what I am looking for.... I myself have asked about bumbage.. I now know what it is... but... I wanted a little more detail about it.... I am just going to keep reading about the things I have questions about becuase I know that people dont have time to tell the same thing over and over again.... but.. I have at times felt like I was a bother by asking questions.... and sometimes.. I just dont have the time to read and read and read hundreds of posts to try to find an answer..... I think that by being new... we try to get too involved too fast and look for answers from those of you who have been here longer versus reading.... I know for me at least.... I work 60 plus hours a week and have three kids and my mother to take care of and I sometime just hope that if I ask.. someone will answer so that I can do what I need to do... and that isnt really fair to those who have been here longer.... (we just need to try to be as patient as possible)

cajunbulldog
I don't want to be assumed as coming off half cocked. I am a mod on another board and can apreciate what a mod goes thru dealing with spam and repeat posts.I simply replied to make people aware that as a mod you should exercise restraint and patience. You should remember that it is your duty to help people. You accepted that when you accepted mod position. divemedic
Help doesn't mean spoonfeed. That is what many here expect. A simple search often yields results, but many would rather not put forth the effort. Many times, the answer is in the sticky's at the tops of each forum, or has been addressed hundreds of times. It is obvious in certain cases that there was not even an attempt to look on your own. This is a self help board. There are those who forget that, or never learn that. Instead, they expect others to do the work of cleaning their credit for them, yet do not remember that MY credit is clean. I do not and cannot care as much about your credit as you do. If you can't be bothered to do a simple search, why should I?You should remember that it is your duty to help people. You accepted that when you accepted mod position. Not true. I am not your employee, I am not your servant. I am not here to give you the answers, anymore than a teacher is hired to give you the answers to a test. cajunbulldog
Dive,That is quite true.I have over 70k members on board I mod on and guests can post too. I do not like to spoonfeed and will direct them in right direction. We also have posters who don't want to do the work.I usually tell them to get with the advice offered. And we help more people than we hurt here. For every person who snipes at me for not spoonfeeding them, or "scolding" them (no matter how gently), there are 20 people who thank me for helping them. Works for me.

shan2themax
I think what would help alot... would be if you could search for the exact terms throughout posts....IMHO You may want to know about something that has 3 words in it... well you have to look through each post for all three words singly.... when you are new that is overwhelming... Is there a way to change that so that you can search a string of words together? That would cut down on alot of frustration and confusion.... but I am sure that it would also make the program harder to run... IDK....
