What exactly is bumping

Recommended Posts

depends on which type of "bumping" you're asking about I guess.

When someone uses the term "bump" in regards to the inquiries on their credit report: apparently there is so much space available for inquiries in the system, by pulling your own credit report often (soft inquiries that do not affect your score) you add fresh new inquiries and the older ones (including hard inquiries) are knocked off. It is a way of having inquiries deleted from your credit report.

If you are referring to the post you see here, (let's say you click on a post and someone has replied with the simple word "bump", it means they wanted the post brought back up to the top of the board (this will bring it to the attention of those who might not have seen it before it got too far down the board).

By making this reply to your post, I am actually "bumping" your post back up to the top, even though I merely wanted to help you out by giving an honest answer to your question.

yeah I knew about bumping a thread to the top, I wanted to know about the bumping of inquries of your credit report. I had seen it metioned in the site but couldn't find an initial thread/interductory thread that said what it was, etc. Thanks for telling me.

Just for the record, I have heard people say that they bumped their inquiries too much and the end result is that they had a split file. I am not sure what that means other than they ended up with two credit files ...maybe the system had to create a second one to hold all of the inquiries rather than knock them off.

I am not familiar with "split files", but in case it helps, here is a link to a post from someone it happend to.
