"Sold to other agency" removal?

This was originally asked by Goobz, does anyone have an answer?

I have a CA that sold their debt to another CA. Both of them are reporting delinquent. The original CA shows "Sold To Other Agency", but is still on my credit report. Doesn't this affect me with a ding, and can't this be removed!?

If, what you're really talking about, is Junk Debt Buyers...then technically, the OC, the first JDB, and any JDB they may sell the debt to could indeed be reporting on your CRs. The OC is probably a ding, although their TL would say something like $0 balance, "written off/ sold to another lender". The first JDB is probably not a ding, unless they say "collection account". And the same goes for the 2nd JDB.

Don't they have to remove the original account once they sell it?

No...if it has a $0 balance, its being reported accurately.

(And...just to make sure we understand...CA's don't buy debts. JDB'sbuy debts. Some CA's have subsidiaries that might buy debts, but, they'll have different names. The reason I stress this is to help keep straight who you're dealing with. You treat CA's differently than you treat JDB's).

How can you tell a JDB from a CA?

Its tough to do just using your credit reports. You can tell the debt has been sold, because the OC's tradeline will say "sold to another lender" with a $0 balance. But determining who they sold it to probably requires the DV process. If you see someone...anyone...reporting on your CRs that you don't recognize, send them a DV with the "...hey, found you on my credit reports. I never had an accunt with you people. Prove to me you got the right to be there, or be gone."
