A law firm is collecting for a collector who bought my debt from original creditor?

The original creditor, sold my debt to a collection agency, and the collection agency sent my information to a law firm in my state, who sent me a letter asking for the money. I'm sure this means they are getting ready to take me to court. The SOL for this date ends August 2007 which is five months from now. The last payment and/or activity I had on the account was August 2002. Do I pay the law firm or the collection agency? I'm confused.

You need to DV the lawyer.. you can do that just as you would with any other CA.... then if you decide you are paying this amount then you contact the lawyers office to make arrangements..

Give them ANY banking info over the phone.. pay this account either with one opened JUST for this reason or money orders.. I have a seperate account I have for JDB payments.. just in case they get greedy..

also get EVERYThing in writing before you send one single dime.. if its not on paper.. it never happened

Hi Carolina, what should I send them in writing? I don't know what to ask for or how to word a letter. If by some chance they go past the four months left in the SOL before sueing me, how can I prove it's past SOL? My last payment and activity on the account was August 2002.

you need to send a DV letter before you do anything.. just go to search here or google it. they are all over the place. just make sure you keep it simple and reword it so it sounds like you...
