NeedRelief
I'm trying to avoid having a process server or sheriff show up at my door with a summons to obtain a civil judgment. Is there any way I can find out if the law firm has filed a complaint against me, and obtain the location where I can pick up the summons in person? If I am able to pay the amount, can it be paid when I file my answer, or will I still have to go to court?
CarolinaBlueEyes
depends on your state but in most cases you can contact the county court and find out if they filed something that has yet to be served.. In my county it takes about five days from filing to sherriff and here you can pick it up in some cases.IF they did and you want to pay it you call the lawyer that is sueing.. the court has nothing to do with the payment... but expect the amount to be changed to include a backlog of interest and hefty lawyer fees in most cases
unusualsuspect
You could also go online to your county's court and see if they have an online directory of court cases. Search for your name.

CarolinaBlueEyes
you can go online but I would double check.. I know our county does not have online listings.. and some area ones do but they are limited to judgements not filings.. so I would just take a day and either call or trot down to the court house JUST to be safe...
