yesterday as many of you know I had a one on one meeting with our congressmen. I had presented my proposal regarding JDB and CA (NOT OC) for important laws I believe needed changes.

The biggies being Manditory ARB, Freezing of bank accounts, defining Debt validations, Disclosure as to what a JDB paid, call centers going overseas with our financial info, contact after the SOL expired.. etc).. I also included YOUR comments under my tab Federal Wish list.. so thank you for your feedback to that post.

Here is the update. The meeting went well, he had some questions and even referred to some of what was going on as Piracy.. my NACA lawyer also helps with military cases and I am putting him in touch as well.

The Congressman read my proposal yesterday and this morning.. at 9 am I was suprised to recieve a phone call from DC, it was from the man he passed it to in washington. He was impressed and said that there are some things going on in the finance committes and he wanted to see where that was going and where they were.

He is going to contact me at the end of the week or the beginning of next week to discuss it further He agreed that some of the federal changes needed more teeth and he proposal I gave him had merit. So thanks to all of you that helped and though its a long process... lets see where it lands.. I will keep you posted!

I also posted this website and mentioned he would want to take a look at it.. I told him out of all the websites out there this one I believed had the strongest consumer voice. Lets hope we can move a few mountains.. It may be one rock at a time, but I am optimistic!

Great job CBE!

We are (as I type this, the atty I work for and DH - one in the same) talking to our Congress critter on the phone. Yes, he called us! We are informing him of some other legislation that needs to passed on the consumer front that is tax related. This is the second talk to him. We are not at a staffer level, our Congress critter has our home number. I don't know if that is good or bad, but whatever works, works!

Here's to hoping for a consumer friendly Congress!

They are not going to regulate a website.. geesh...

We sit and bitch about the laws and some of these things need to be changed... they are not going to change themselves.... I want them to see what we have here..this site has a wealth of information..

it not exactly easy to get a congressmens ear these days so support would be appreciated

I was just making a joke im glad to see someone actually stand up and take action. I need to do the same here in Ohio because our state laws regarding consumers suck. Ohio is really bad because these CA and JDB dont even have to have a license or be bonded they can just pop out of the dark and start their deceptives ways. The laws Ohio currently has are so vague a 6 year old could start a CA and know body would even take notice.

Great work!!! Lets hope something is done.

If you want us to help apply a small modicum of pressure (like you say 1 rock at a time) by writing our Congressmen, pse attach a sample letter and I will print it out, sign and send CMRR (but of course) to my Congressman!!

I think it is CA that should be penalized for suing if case is after SOL. After all they are tying up court time over a statute that is precisely written to prevent it in the first case. Unless the lawsuit is to challenge validity of SOL (giving evidence that case was tolled, etc) CA should be taken to task.

On our side, SOL is our last line of defense.

Also another good thing would be if a history could be attached to each account.

Currently the CA can and should provide a history/info on a account when we DV them. But CA should be forced to include all future activities, like DV from us, C&D letters from us, response, dates, past current and future owners of this debt, amount paid for the debt, collection effort.

This would hopefully stop future CAs from still trying to collect from us. And should they try and sue us, the judge might see the chain of activity for that account and just throw out the case.

Hey, CBE, you still have this guys ear?

Look what I found on the web...

http://www.bid4assets.com/auction/index.cfm?auctionid=305489

Isn't this kind of thinly disquised Identity Theft. SS#'s and addresses available to the highest bidder?

I just saw this portfolio you found on the web and my mouth just hit the floor! This is absolutely insane and how can it be legal?????? CBE.....if you can throw this in for Mr. Congressman.

Unbelievable. Im getting very down on if we have any rights left at all.

Too bad we couldn't couldn't pool our money, buy the debts, and destroy them into infinity. Good work on the federal front, Carolina and others! There are needed changes that are long overdue. Regulations aren't such a bad thing. Look what happens when an industry is able to run with loose rules i.e. the mortgage industry

SOL for credit card debt should be the same for all states. (2 yrs)ha.

JDBs shouldn't be allowed to sue unless they have the debtor's signature on the original agreement to pay.

Carolina, you should go before Congress to give a speech on what the new laws should be.
