Debt Shield Company

Welcome...

I moved your thread over here to the "Collections" forum where you're likely to get more answers.

And, I think we need more information before we can help. What kind of debt are we talking about? Who's the creditor? Did they actually say they already have a judgement, or did they threaten to take you to court and get one?

A creditor called me and said a judgement had been filed with them How do I know if this is true? What can I do. Wanted to work with Debt shield but they didn't answer phones when the creditors called. Are they ok to work with?

Shirley

Are any of the credit companies you would work with?

The company was Chase and he said they WERE filing a judgement.

You mean any of the debt fixers? No. You can do everything they do, and it won't cost you 10-20% of your debt, and the back taxes.

The company was Chase and he said they WERE filing a judgement.

I know this is all tough to sort out, but its really important that you sort out who the players are. (Let me start at the end and then go back. If someone does sue you...you'll receive a summons from your local court. Depending on the state you're in, this may be a letter, or it may be the sheriff coming to your door. Once you get the summons, then you can figure out how to deal with it).

But...If the person who said they were going to sue was really a collection agency (CA) working for Chase, then this could be just a scare tactic to get you to cough up money. They do it all the time. If the debt is old enough, and has been sold to a junk debt buyer (JDB) then its even more likely they'rs just threatening.

We do not generally recommend debt fixer companies as Willing said. Some of them even use illegal methods to try and "fix" your credit, such as impersonating creditors or trying to change your social security number. The latest scam I've seen is you pay them and they report false tradelines to try and boost your score.

Chase just made a boo boo. Especially if the person you spoke with was not an actual lawyer for Chase. It is illegal, even for a creditor, to misrepresent that they are an attorney if they are not.

First off, they can't "file a judgment" against you without first filing and winning a lawsuit. And they don't file the judgment, the court does. It's obvious from the wording that it was one of their internal collection people and not a lawyer. And that brings me to this point. Their collection agent just represented themselves as counsel for Chase by threatening you with legal process. That's an illegal practice of law.
