AISLE4
Can a summons be delivered to a P.O. Box? And if it's a state-by-state thing, I'm asking specifically about NY and Florida.
divemedic
Florida? No, must be served in person- the sheriff will do it for about $20.
Recovering Attorney
It can be mailed to a PO Box, if you use it to get your mail, but it cannot be served there under NY law, save for a court order. Using a PO Box doesn't shield you from service. You have to give the Post Office your street address, and process servers can get that from the Postal Service. AISLE4
It's actually not difficult to get a PO Box without having a permanent street address. And even if one was concerned about having a permanent street address linked to a PO Box, it's not difficult to have a string of PO Boxes around the country with forwarding services that would make anyone trying to find a permanent street address dizzy. It's not difficult in this day and age to create the illusion of residence anywhere you want folks to think you live. In addition to a PO Box, it's easy to get a phone number with any area code you want. Fax numbers too. Of course it's a lot easier if you don't have a driver's license or voter registration or a mortgage linked to a particular state and address. If you live in a state that is not the most consumer friendly...
