hummer931
So i disputed a Collection account on my EQUIFAX credit report online. I used not the regular dispute page but instead the Page everyone has been using to get inquirys off. Well i disputed this collection and put "fradulent account" on there. Well damn if a FRAUD alert didnt pop up an all 3 bureaus!..IS this a common practice. i didnt ask for a fraud alert to be installed?!?
hiblues
With identity theft so rampant, I've read that the CRAs freeze every file when any Fraudulent dispute comes in, ( in fact they may be required to by law to freeze it, but not sure on that- I'm sure someone here knows)....it's to protect you, and to keep people from filing bogus disputes.Gotta be careful when disputing an account as "fraudulent", better be 100% sure that it is... or bammmm, frozen. As for me, I wouldn't even dispute it as "not mine" ( if I am pretty sure that it is mine), but that's me. Well damn if a FRAUD alert didnt pop up an all 3 bureaus!..IS this a common practice. i didnt ask for a fraud alert to be installed?!?It's very common and you indirectly told them that there has been some act of fraud when you claimed "fraudulent account" as your dispute reason. So, being the nice and considerate CRAs they are, they place FAs on your file to protect you from future incidents. How sweet of them, right? When 1 CRA puts a FA on your file, they will forward it to the remaining 2 CRAs. For future notice, if you don't want the CRAs adding a FA to your file, do not do the following things: 1) request it; 2) continuously dispute a TL as "not mine" or "fraudulent account/charges"; or 3) constantly dispute inquiries. To remove the FAs, EX requires that you mail in your request along w/ copies of your DL and a utility bill in your name. TU will remove it if you request it by phone. EQ will accept your request (along w/ the proof of course) by fax @ 1-888-729-0083.Do an additional search on "fraud alert". You'll find plenty of posts by me that explain fraud alerts and how they're not as terrifying as pple tend to believe.
sjokinley
I just check my Truecredit reports and they have added Extended fraud alerts to all three CRA's that they say will be maintained for seven years. What do I do about that?

sjokinley
TU removed the extended alert with a phone call, the other two I had to send them a letter, but apparently no big deal.
