What does this mean?

TO summarize:

I had an Orchard Bank Card that had been sent to collection. When I disputed it with a CRA, I received a letter from HSBC (the parent company) stating that it had been sold to the CA (I never rec'd anything to that effect), and it would be now be identified as "HSBC" on my CR. When the dispute was complete, the entry (HSBC/CRA) was deleted (I'm not sure why, I never even DV'd the CA), but then there's a TL on there still for HSBC, with a "Paid and Closed" status and a $0 balance. There's also no info on orig limit, or anything else, just that it was sold and transferred, and that I"m disputing this entry (??? I thought the dispute was complete?)

My question is this: how does this affect my overall picture? I am still on the hook to pay this, or since there's a zero balance do I no longer have to? Is it possible that they will sell this to another CA in the future?

Thanks, I know this sounds confusing as hell...

You originally had two entries one for the OC and one for the CA. When you dispute if you disputed both entries maybe the CA did not verify but HSBC did. HSBC will continue to report until the reporting period is up.

Maybe you have a case similar to mine. I had an orchard card that was also sold by HSBC it was sold a few times and the CAs have lost all the information for that account. Well the last group that had my account was W&A and they sent a dunning letter and I responded with a DV and they disappeared.

At the same time I had disputed HSBC but they verified and they are still on my report. Sold and transfered. The account may be sold again and you may get letters so make sure you DV when those letters come in.

I have sent a verification letter to HSBC and I am waiting for their response. HSBC CSR told me my account was sold all the CA can answer my questions.

Until the SOL passes you are still on the hook. HSBC will not try to collect from you because they no longer own the account. Keep your eyes open for teh account with other CAs
