My First Delete --- Yippeeee

Hi,

just got a letter from Credit Protection Associates regarding a Comcast Account that they opened since 2005. The account was for $300.00

I DV'd them last two weeks, got my green card back last week. Today, I received a letter from the CA indicating that:

-- they closed the account (balance = 0)

-- they will delete info from 3 CRAs

Thanks for the encouragement from all here that encouraged me to DV. I thought I shouldn't because the account was so new, but hey, you never know.

Send a goodwill to the OC, indicating the account has been paid, and politely ask for deletion.

The OC sent me a Paid in full letter and I have the cancelled check from 2005!

But the collection agency is the one reporting it on my credit report! I did not even know it went to collections.

How can I owe a collection and interest when it was paid 2 years ago to the OC! It seems like the screw up was when the OC accepted my payment without informing me or the CA they sent the account to??

Yes, I understand.

You could still contact the OC, and have them instruct their CA agent to remove the old item.

Alternatively, you can DV the CA, and ask them to either validate or delete. This would force them to contact the OC, and hopefully update their records...

I did DV the CA they still have about 14 days to respond.

The OC said they sent the CA a paid in full letter last week.

I will ask them to instruct the CA to remove.
