Big Time
Congrats with paying off all your debts! In your case, I'd spend the $30 (about $10 each) to get seperate credit reports online for each CRA. Then dispute as "paid in full" online with each debt that isn't reporting correctly.
sjokinley
I could be wrong, but I've read in several posts that having a paid collection on your report won't raise your score at all. That's why the advice is to not pay them without a PFD. Hopefully I'm wrong though and yours will work out.
Big Time
That's right, paid collections don't really help your score at all. Since he's already paid them, though, he shouldn't stress about it. Good credit is a journey. One constant I've noticed over the last couple of years is that once an old debt has been paid, the CA loses interest and usually doesn't bother to verfiy them when contacted by a CRA about a disputed debt. And I doubt that they keep reporting month after month a debt is paid off. I still think Christmas is the best time to dispute more recent debts, however.
