Tourniquet416
I broke down and used $250 on my Target card this month. I didn't want to put it on my 0% interest cards, because I didn't want the temptation of carrying a balance. I paid off Target last week.I decided to try and get an increase, and of course, I've been denied...again.
LNY
She's baaaaaaack... I'm not sure Target even takes requests for CLIs, Tourney (anyone? Bueller?)... I think they're like Juniper, where they review your account at certain intervals... but didn't you just get a CLI a couple of months ago, to $1000? Tourniquet416
I don't see that as a CLI. My Red Card got replaced by a Target Visa. Next time (meaning next week) I'm going to talk to a person at Target and ask them a few question about their unfair treatment of me.
LNY
It is a CLI, though. It's the same TL, not a new one. Same history and all. They only change the acct. number because it needs a Visa-coded number in order to be used outside Target.

LNY
:rollseyes:Why would they have the phone option of credit limit increase, if it's not done on a case by case basis?Probably like Juniper, you can ask, but all they'll do is check to see if you're in line for an increase. Not every creditor does CLIs the same way. Juniper will check every 6 mos. to see if you're eligible. So if they check on Jan. 1st and you're not, that's it until June. You can ask a million times between January and May, and it will always be no... they'll base their answer to you on January's results. Even if your score has gone up 100 pts. momof5
Look, I had my $500 CL Target (Visa) card for *5* years without a CLI. Fast forward to yesterday....A surprising increase in my FAKOs had me examining my TLs to see whazzup....THAR SHE BLOWS!!!!Target $438 / $5000 I logged onto my account to make sure it wasn't a typo!!!!!Till now, Target had been my highest CL at that measley $500.Don't give up! Did you call them to make sure?? $5000 on a Target store card?? And when you have no CLs over $500? That sounds really suspicious. Like that glitch recently where (I think) WaMu was telling people online that they'd been approved for $15-30k, even though they had nothing but a $300 Orchard card. pjfan
Before my credit went down the tubes I had a Target Visa with a $2500 limit. I never asked for the increase they just did it. So they do have larger limits than $1000.But that was then this is now.Look, I had my $500 CL Target (Visa) card for *5* years without a CLI. LNY
Somehow I missed that this was a Target Visa. But from $500 to $5,000 when you don't have any other TLs over $500 still seems odd. Especially since Target doesn't exactly hand out CLIs like candy.
pjfan
Oh your right she did not say it was a target visa just says "target".Yes I too am shocked by that kind of limit on a red card!Somehow I missed that this was a Target Visa. A jump (and limit) of that kind from Target would normally be reserved for someone with an 800 score and a wallet full of high-limit prime/semi-prime cards. But hey, if it's true... GREAT!! momof5
Here is what might have prompted the increase......beyond perfect payment history......I did the TC trick and added my mom's addy as "previous" addy on TC. It caused my mom's Home Depot (I am AU) to report on EX. It has a $600 bal on a $13500 limit.

Yeah, perfect payments alone don't usually do it for Target, especially if everything on your report is under $500.That's just awesome. I am all for milking the system for all you possibly can. Heaven only knows how much of it is stacked AGAINST us!!
momof5
Don't *I* know it!Right now my TU FICO is 659. My EQ and EX trail significantly. Still working on those....The ONE TL that is killing the other 2 is Chase Mortgage. I told their rep that this is their LAST chance to get something on there I will accept...or delete...On TU my lates show....but in the 2 yr window before I got my mortgage! That is why my TU fico is so high....they are '4 and 5 years' old by TU. There are 8 too many lates (added during this last update!) and shows ONLY on EX - during the last 9 months of my mortgage! That makes them only 1 yr old...... but EX shows I am "current" on the paid mortgage....EQ only has 4 lates total and they are in the correct months, but shows that I am currently 60 days past due on a paid closed mortgage. Now you can see why I was SO shocked that they would increase my limit like that!!
Tourniquet416
*sigh* By the end of the year if I don't get an increase from Target, and I don't care if it $5, I'm closing the card by Dec. 31, 2007. I refuse to be at $1k forever the way I was at $200.I got my amazon chase visa in the mail yesterday. But I still haven't received my star trek mastercard. I'm going to have to call boa next week if it doesn't show up.
CantCU
Congratulations on the Target Visa CLI!I thought about calling them (yes I have one, too) but looking at my billing for the past few months, I have had 2 automatic increases since December! So I figured I'd look somewhere else to do an increase. And I did.
janedoe2
Hi everyone:)++ My Dh got one of those instant approvals at the register and opened his $200red card last month. After being denied WAMU he was happy. charged and paid $190, then charged $150 paid $35. Called target because DH used debit card to buy some Q-tips and got another approval offer. DH rarely pays for anything larger than $5 (I do most of the shopping) but target keeps showing him love.We still have not received a statement. Rep said many people do have 2 or more red cards but she does not recommend it. DH might open the second....not sure.I asked about the visa and she said it is an automatic upgrade whenever the customer becomes eligible. I asked why he would get two red cards instead of a CLI and she had no answers. She did offer to add me as AU but I declined because I had a $200 account with them about 10 yrs ago that charged off. I don't want to re-open that can of worms.
Tourniquet416
I hate Target.Yeah, I went into Target today, because I'll admit that the quality and price of their "panties in the bag" are second to none. At least not in the mall I was in.Went to the cashier, and the machine wouldn't take my debit card, even though I ran it twice. The cashier was trying to imply that I was trying to pull a fast one. But what can you expect from a Target employee? Good service? No, I wasn't surprised by his attitude one bit.So I just so happened to have $20 in my pocket, and paid for them with that. I usually don't have any cash. And all my CCs were in my sock drawer at home.At the next two stores, my debit card worked just fine. And God help them if my debit card was charged for that purse. LNY
OK, since this thread has turned into yet another Target-bashing session--complete with personal attacks--it's being locked. It's not like this last episode had anything whatsoever to do with "obtaining credit cards" anyway. It should have gone in Off-Topic.
