kenien
Hello all, i came here with one question, all help is appreciated. My grandmother has an item on her credit report, from verizon who says she has a 2000+ bill. this is a problem because this bill was never in her name, and they also have her listed as living in a residence she never did (in north carolina, we live in NYC). the actual owner of that account is her son and my uncle, who was even the person billed for that account. this charge continues to haunt her (now 5 years down the line) as an AMEX account reduced her line by $2000 because of it. what can she do to fix this? no CB has contacted her however, so what must be done? does she contact verizon? we do not have the account number either, as it is abbreviated on the credit report. Big Time
At first glance, this sounds like it may be fraud on your uncles part. Did he use her info to get a cellphone because he had bad credit? Did she give her permission, or co-sign for something?I hate to be so pessimistic, but we've seen this scenario happen before. kenien
well i believe she may have given him permission as a cosigner but im not too sure... that aside, how can she get that address off of her credit report, and since its been so long, how would she go about having them verify that information? myscoresawful
well i believe she may have given him permission as a cosigner but im not too sure... that aside, how can she get that address off of her credit report, and since its been so long, how would she go about having them verify that information? The bad thing about cosigning, is that the account you co sign for, becomes your TL too. Good or bad, it shows up on your credit report. She would just about have to treat it as though it were her cell phone and bill.If it was 5 years ago, she could try the DV process. Don't offer them any information (I never lived there, I live in NY, or her SSN)..It's a good possibility that the CA will not have the co signer agreement or be able to validate with Verizon and just send it back to them and remove it from reporting. If they are able to produce a co signer agreement with your grandmas signature on it and information about the amoun owed, then there really isn't going to be a lot that can be done, unless she wants to request a PFD.On the other hand, I have heard/read that reporting in the state of NY is only 5 years. (I could be wrong, and someone here can elaborate). If that is the case, they will have to remove this from her credit report very soon since you say it is about 5 years old now. I would definitely check into that before making any settlement arrangements with the CA or Verizon.Good luck!
kenien
yea see thats what makes it so interesting, she has NEVER received anything from a CA, it just appeared on her CR. is there a clear posting regarding the DV process?

I believe they've waited too late to do it now.
