nieh59
Hello all,First time posting. I'm currently in the process of applying for a morgage loan. After running my credit report, Experian reported me with the wrong age, wrong address and roughly 20-30 accounts that don't belong to me...total $1.2 million in debt. The other 2 bearau reports came out fine.I tried to call...but we all know that it's impossible to reach anyone. So I sign on to their website and dispute using their dispute system, which is very basic. My problem is, I need to buy a house soon for my family, and I don't know if the online disput even works, or might take way too long. Base on that, what do you guys think I should do at this point? Thanks for your help,Neih
mattandallismom
I read that it can take over 30 days for an investigation online. It might be worth your time to hold. BUT everything I've read on here says to dispute by letter only. I'm not sure if it would be different if it's potential fraud.
someonesomewhere
Sounds like you've been a victim of ID theft. Start reading here.http://www.creditinfocenter.com/identity/This link in particular.http://www.creditinfocenter.com/identity/IfYouRAVictim.shtmlOnline disputing works, sometimes, for some things. Other times, not so much.
nieh59
I don't think it's ID theft, because the accounts show good standing, monthly payment. Since I've already did the online dispute, is it work to also write to them?Thank,Neih
someonesomewhere
Whether it's an EX screw up, or genuine ID theft, I would still treat it as ID theft until you know otherwise. It's stuff on your CR that you know not to be yours, right? When were the TLs opened?
nieh59
well...those stuff doesn't show up on all 3 beareau. Only Experian. If it's ID thief, I would think it would be on all 3. Thanks.
someonesomewhere
If it's ID theft, or you can make a credible claim of suspected ID theft, then you have more leverage. If you wanna rely upon the good, kind folks at EX to fix their screw up, which it likely is, have at it.But if you're still waiting 6 months from now to get it cleaned off your CR so you can buy a house ...
