jc72
DH has a secured card with Orchard since 2/2005 CL- $200.Requested 6 months ago to go unsecured...gave him the run-a-round..still secured. He was approved recently for WaMu $1500 and Chevron $300. He gets offers from HSBC..went to the main website and did the pre-approval process and it said he might qualify for HSBC Platinum Mastercard. As I understand it, Orchard is with HSBC also?So it this card he was pre-approved for considered Prime or Sub-Prime?Thanks:p
direred
Orchard is subprime. He'll find that if he got an Orchard card, he probably will be declined for any other HSBC card for 18 months. They like people to wait between apps.
jc72
Thanks...Hes had Orchard for over 2 years....The pre-approval was for HSBC Platinum MC...is that one Prime or Sub-prime?
direred
HSBC is generally prime, but they frequently give subprime limits and terms. On his credit report, HSBC reports the same as Orchard, so there's no difference to anyone looking at the report. LNY
HSBC proper is prime. Orchard is subprime.
jc72
I didn't do it....I just wasn't too sure if it was prime or not. We've done OK the last couple weeks with approvals..(for a couple that HAS NEVER HAD CREDIT CARDS:roll: after 16 years of marriage) i don't count Orchard..DH- WaMu $1500 (was stressed about the "not giving credit they say you were approved for", but they sent welcome packet, and called last night to see if card arrived. DH confirmed limit) Chevron $300Me- AmEx- $2000we are AU on each other so that should still help....Plus he got approved for Cap 1 auto...but now we want to wait a bit till these start reporting so we can shop for a better rate. pjfan
Good for you! Congrats. It is amazing how fast they start sending you pre approvals on prime cards once you have your foor in the door Be picky about what you choose to get. Before I ruined my credit BofA and Citi were good to me. They were my favorites.I didn't do it....I just wasn't too sure if it was prime or not. Even some from last June.want to buy my moms house in 6/08 so i'm glad it's finally starting to come around...

jc72
Thank you!'Its stressful because even though its my moms house...shes not really giving us a deal. We get first choice and if we can;t do it she will put it on the market. She'll sell it to us for what its appraised for.I was hoping she'd sell it for what we get approved for!!!! pjfan
Well.......... maybe you should make her an offer on what you can afford at the time and see if she accepts. I would think she would prefer to sell it to you:confused: And wouldn't she save money by not using a realtor ect.sorry for the::jacked:: Thank you!'Its stressful because even though its my moms house...shes not really giving us a deal. jc72
I'm thinking that is what we will do too. This is the only thing she got from her divorce. She was a SAHM her entire marriage and just started back to work. It's her retirement when she sells.

jc72
This is for LNY.....a couple of questions about CC....1. When you apply and it asks if you want another card for someone, is that considered joint or AU?2. In re: to not applying for DH AmEx on same day as me, was that the right thing or does it matter? My friend told me that every card her DH applied for he added her as AU, but then had her apply herself so she could have her own established credit. When you apply and it asks if you want another card for someone, is that considered joint or AU?:hmm:I have wondered about this myself. I think its just as an AU. Although when I applied to Amex, they wanted the ss number to get another card, even though I wanted to add hubby as AU I didn't do it. I was afraid it might mean joint and his BK would mean denial. So was that just for AU or Joint? They don't check his credit for AU do they?
Kat99
Just to share my Orchard history, I rcvd a secured cc ($200) from them a few yrs ago and after 2 yrs of perfect credit management with the card, I requested the secured status to be removed, they ran me around and did not remove the secured status but then I was able to apply and was approved for a non secured Orchard card with a $300 limit (go figure). I dont even want the first secured one anymore because it costs me a fortune. I have it paid down to $20 and that is where it is going to stay. The downside is I cannot close it as it is positive on my reports but they charge a high annual fee.

You're just getting a second card on your account.2) I'm not sure I fully understand the question, but I can't see why it matters. If DH applies, they're going to pull his report and approve or deny based on his credit. Yours won't come into it. If he can get approved and he needs the TL, why not? jc72
you answered it perfectly! thank you...He applied and was denied. The reason it gave was BK. Which is odd since the BK is no longer reporting:confused: So i looked at his EX again, and the 3 old collections from years ago show they were IIB. So AmEx must have seen that??? I would love to get the BK off DH now instead of 3 more years!

jc72
No, never BK AmEx...Filed in 2000 but about a year after filed collections were added to report that say IIB.But the BK has been off his reports for months....I didn't realize that just because a collection is listed as IIB that they could deny for that. direred
Yep, that's what the Johnson v. MBNA suit was all about. Here's a summary. In Johnson's case, she wasn't even the one who filed for BK -- she was the AU on an IIB card.
