Swolf
If this is in the wrong forum please move:My girlfriend and I have been togather for over 2 years now and are considering marriage. We are also in the process of tring to purchase a home. My middle score is 609 and hers is 595. I am actually recieving a letter today form where I payed off my child support in full and that it is permissable to remove from my credit report. So I will be sending a dispute to remove the tradelines from my credit report. I have been told child support weighs heavely on credit score and that it could jump as much as 20-30 points which puts me right there for alot more loan. Right now its 124k, but if I can hit 640 then I could get a 170k loan.So my question is if we were to get married what actually happens with the credit? Do I assume her score and debt or is it just seperate. I am confused about what marriage actually effects. Any help would greatly appricated.Shawn

Can you piggyback on a cc or 2 that has a long history and low utilization? That is a great way of bumping up a score quickly. Good luck!
kevin3344
Not sure what your current revolving debt looks like, but if you have any credit cards that weighs heavily in your score. If they're maxed out pay them down. If you don't have any, get one or two. I got a secured credit card 2 years ago and my score jumped 20 pts. Overtime the tradeline will continue to have a positive influence on your score.________Park Royal 2 Condominium Pattaya Edited September 9, 2011 by kevin3344
Swolf
Actually she does have a credit card that is maxed, and I got an unsecured card in november for 300 that has been paid off monthly and it has bumped me up, but I was worried that if we did get married that my score would drop to hers. We already have a car loan togather but I have done alot of work on my credit over the last year and a half, we getting ready to start on hers. kevin3344
Marriage won't merge your credit bureau accounts or anything like that...they will still remain separate. However, any joint accounts you have (like your car) will be reflected on both, so keep that in mind. You mentioned her cc was maxed out, that is definitely affecting her score. Try and bring this down as fast and possible. You won't believe the affect revolving credit has on FICO scores.________Sadie18 cam Edited September 9, 2011 by kevin3344
