WILLY
I have several student loans that were reported as late for 90+ days. I later applied for a deferrment and was granted the deferrment for the same period of time the lates were reported. Do the SL providers usually remove the late pays since I was actually in deferrment if I send a dispute "never late" to the CRA??? Or, will they verify as correct..? direred
Since you weren't in deferment at the time, generally no. The only exception is if they weren't notified of a deferment and you caught it pretty quickly.
LynnInMN
Sorry but retro deferments do not correct lates. It is the borrowers responsiblity to submit deferments before they become late. It has always been my opinion that retro deferments are not worth the paper they are written on because of this. Why bothering wasting deferemnt time? WILLY
Thx for the info...The loans have been sold several times over and more than five years ago. Maybe they will just not verify...Keeping my fingers crossed...!
LynnInMN
They will verify. The Higher Education Act requires they report factually and accurately. Actually disputing can make it worse. They have to take a closer, manual look and they could discover that that 90 day late is actually a 120. Happens all the time.
