need a fresh start
Hello everyone--I had a credit card with MBNA, and the amount of the debt I owed was $20,000 which they charged off at the end of 2005. I have a tradeline on my credit report clearly showing this. I assume they sold this debt to Hilco Receivables, as I have another tradeline showing the same MBNA card, and same amount of 20k, shown with the current status of collection account, but with Hilco on it instead of Bank of America MBNA as on the first tradeline. My question is this: can there legally be 2 tradelines on a credit report for one single account? Again, the first is for a charge off, while the second shows a collection account? This feels like double jeopardy--is it legal for this to appear like I have described? Thank you very much for taking the time to read this, and helping me with any advice--it is very appreciated.
VonAngel (aka EarthAngel)
If the debt was sold to Hilco, then yes, both TLs can appear...BUT...the MBNA TL should say something similar to "sold/transferred to another lender" w/ a $0 balance.
