mmckey
Can the CA update instead of delete when debt was paid directly to OC?...I disputed a CA and they replied with the info I was requesting. I then spoke with the original creditor who said they would notify the CA when the debt was paid. So yesterday I paid the bill and today I called the CA and requested removal of the negative entry and they said they could not delete the account, only update it. I did not pay the CA - I paid the original creditor. Can the CA still keep this on my credit report? Or maybe I need to contact someone higher up the ladder at the CA. The woman I talked to seemed like she did not know what she is talking about. Should I try to dispute with the CRA or what? What should I doThanks, MissyMYFICO 3/29/07 TU 460 EXP 499 EQ 536PG 4/2/07 TU 536 EXP 564 EQ
divemedic
That is correct. You paid, they reported it as a paid collection. That is exactly why I tell everyone not pay an account in collections.Paid collections are almost impossible to get rid of
dpgirl
You could try disputing the CRA (s) with a copy of the cashed check or reciept from the OC stating that you paid them, no CA was involved therefore the tradeline should not be reported as if the CA was paid. It worked for me before. If not I don't think there is too much you can do.
rjnjr1019
i got a bill from a ca it has not been put on my cr after reading this are you saying i should not pay the ca and i should pay the oc?
divemedic
If the account is in collections, and the OC still owns the debt, the contract that most CA's have specifies that any payment made, even if made to the OC, is forwarded to the CA. the idea here is that the debtor would not have paid if the CA had not placed pressure on the debtor. The CA gets a percentage of any money sent in, that is how they get paid. I advise against paying anything on an account in collections, unless you can get it in writing that the TL will either not be reported, or if it already has been reported, it will be deleted. If you fail to do this, you will get a paid collection for your trouble, and since reporting the TL at this point makes the status "Paid. Was in collections, or in default." A paid collection hurts your credit almost as much as an unpaid one.
