Deleting too many too quickly?

Hi all -- is there a downside to disputing too many negative items at once?

Here's the deal: I have about 13-16 negative items per report. I got two each removed on my own by doing online disputes (I know better now!). I then retained Lexington Law, who wrote 3-5 letters on my behalf about a month ago. After finding this wonderful forum and reading up, I've cut them off.

Now, I'm in a situation where five chargeoffs, all from the same creditor, are behind reported inaccurately, but only because the status hasn't been reflected as paid yet (I just paid them two weeks ago). I was going to take this window to dispute them, if for no other reason than to get the status updated more quickly (I was told it would be 60-90 days for the creditor to update the status). Do I run any risk in doing this?

Thanks!

You should have tried to negotiate with them before paying them. You should have asked in writing for a "Pay for deletion".

I would try to get them to remove it since you have paid them. I wouldn't try to dispute it with the CRA's yet, since it's so new, but you can try if you want.

A paid chargeoff or collection doesn't do anything on your credit report as it counts the same regardless of being paid or not. You would have had a better chance of PFD to have it removed from your credit report. Now after the fact, it may be impossible. :-( There are some OC's that may do it for you but the CA's are a different story. xThudx

I too have around 10 items that were paid collections, from years ago when I was uninformed...should I just try to send a letter to the CA stating the accounts were to have been removed upon payment?...and should I do this all at once, or maybe just a few per month?...they are all due to remain until about 2010 so that is not good.

Hi, i don't think there is any obligation on the CA to remove paid items. They have to report it as *paid*. to get removal, you would to arrange it before payment. at this point, you can try writing a goodwill letter to them - in particular the OC. Write from your heart, and tell them your sob-story (hope you have one ready), and would appreciate removal, since the debt has now been paid.

HTH,

Yawo

I have about 4 settlements and 6 charge off on my credit report and I was wondering if I can get these deleted or just wait for them to drop off? I used a settlement company that helped me get those settlements however after awhile I felt they were just ripping me off and dropped them last month. Thanks to this board I hope I can repair my credit myself. If you have any suggestion please give them, I really need them.

The chargeoffs might be the easiest -- try disputing with the CRA first, if you don't succeed the first time -- keep at it. I would suggest reading through the samples here -- but -- WRITE YOUR OWN LETTER. Try not to use too much legaleese and try to KISS. The settlements are a bit trickier -- try going after the OC to get them removed (if you can), or you can try to dispute them with the CRA.

Settlement companys are a sham and never really *fight* for you, they just come in and get out and take a fat piece of your disposable income while they are at it.

Geekspeed, I will take your advice and keep everybody posted on the outcome. Thanks, I really have a lot to learn.
