ba0501
Has anyone had their Cap One account transferred? I had mine transferred to GEMB/LOWES DC. They are now reporting the credit limit unlike Crap One. Hopefully, things will be better with the new company.
direred
Nope, never even heard of them doing that for an account in good standing.
ctnmkp
A bad thought just occurred to me when reading your post: Are you sure it's a Cap 1 transferred account and not a new account? And if it's a new account and you have had no knowledge of it (Lowe's is way different than Cap 1), could someone have used your identity to obtain credit? Just a thought...not trying to scare you (I just finished reading that thread in the other forum about the "To Catch An Identity Thief" series on Dateline and I admit I am probably a tad bit paranoid at this point). I am certainly not a credit expert and hopefully those who are will chime in (LNY? We need you here!), but I can't imagine a relationship between Cap 1 and GEMB/Lowe's. Just be careful and do some checking and make sure this is something you have opened and not someone else.
ba0501
I just checked TC and Myfico. The Cap One account tradelines say account sold/trannsferred to another lender. The new account with GEMB/LOWES DC has all the same info and age as the Cap One account. I vaguely(sp?) remember getting something in the mail a while back about the transfer but I just blew it off for some reason.
ctnmkp
Interesting. Sorry if I scared you with my paranoia....it just seems so odd to me that Cap 1 would transfer an account to GEMB/Lowe's. Is it an open account? I am probably not providing you any advice here, but just feel like something isn't right. LNY and the other experts will come along here soon and help you out:). In the meantime, try and do some searches using different combinations of words and see if you can come up with an answer.

ba0501
Thanks guys! Does anybody know what the DC stands for?
ctnmkp
Thank you LNY...you are da bomb though:). When I first came here, you were the one that chimed in and taught me, so I have to keep referring you out ya know;).I truly think something is odd here, though. Why would Cap 1 sell an account to GEMB/Lowe's? That is a completely separate entity. It just seemed odd and since I had literally just read the thread over on the other forum about that Dateline series, my paranoia got the best of me! LOL. I dunno...if I were this poster, I would at least be calling around making sure things are okay with this and it's legit and really a transferred Cap 1 account. In the words of Elmer Fudd, "There's somethin' screwy goin' on around here.":D

I would be on the phone with everyone, asking to have this explained and confirmed, preferably in writing.
ba0501
Complain bout Cap One being transferred to GEMB/LOWES DC? Not me, been praying for this for a long time! Already a plus, since my credit limit is now being reported. Maybe I'll get my lousy credit limit raised now.

You were obviously confused about it and questioning it, or you wouldn't have posted here.
direred
From all the posts on this topic on CB, it looks like the Lowe's portfolio moved from Cap1 to GEMB.
ba0501
I wasn't saying anyone advised me to complain. That was just a figure of speech I used in a joking way. I was never confused about anything other than what the DC stood for. All I asked was if anybody else had their Cap One account transferred.
