Drew
I settled an account with NCO a couple of weeks ago and haven't received a confirmation letter as of yet.Would it be wise for me to DV them? If so, would I get my money back if it comes back unverifiable?

If so, would I get my money back if it comes back unverifiable? Not unless you sue. (This is why you always get the DV first, and the agreement to delete or mark "paid in full", before you send money. Even if this was flat out not yours, they'll keep your money...and probably even try for more).
qtptute
1 - you settled with NCO and didn't get it in writing2 - ask for confirmation of receipt of your payment and ask if it constitutes PFD.

Drew
Wow, I feel like a dumb sh*t.I don't even care about the money at this point, all I want is a deletion. If the debt isn't verified shouldn't it be deleted?
willingtocope
Wow, I feel like a dumb sh*t.If the debt isn't verified shouldn't it be deleted? No reason to feel dumb. Its easy for those of us who have been here for awhile to forget that we had learn too.As for the delete, the problem is, they've got your money, so there's no reason for them to delete. Like I said, you'd have to sue...and, since you already paid it, you'd have a hard time claiming it wasn't yours...unless you can really prove that it isn't. Drew
But I never even saw their listing on my credit report. I only knew it was their company because i was transferred over there by the original creditor. What's up with that?
willingtocope
That's all part of the collection game. Some OCs have a collection department of their own...and for the first couple of months they'll hassle you, then they'll get a CA involved...others contract the work out to CAs right away. In some cases, the CAs actually work at the OC's office. In general, its okay to talk to the OC on the phone...but, never talk to a CA (even if you're forwarded). They lie as a part of their job. OC's are concerned about reputation...CAs are not.
RayvonTCO
Good advice wtc. Can I add you to my friend list? Drew you are not out yet. Search these forums for some lady at nco that is helpful. I forgot her name Signore or something. But I think (tell me if you agree wtc) you can dispute it with cra's since its paid and come up with a good short reason (not mine, do not recall account,) something. Or contact the lady, appeal to her human side (yeah right!! but try anyway) and see if she can DAP (new abbrev.) Delete After Pay as a gesture of goodwill
willingtocope
Can I add you to my friend list? Certainly..you can dispute it with cra's since its paid and come up with a good short reason (not mine, do not recall account,) something. You can always dispute with the CRAs. There is a chance that NCO won't verify. If they do, you try the MOV approach. Depends on how much time you want to spend on it.

Interesting points.I've already disputed all my collection accounts with the CRA's and I am waiting on the results.Others on the board agree that's it's almost pointless to ask CA's for a goodwill gesture because they've received the money. I was thinking that since the CA's never showed up on my credit report that paying them would mean that the OC's listing would show as paid. Is this the case? Also, how could I go about monitoring my credit reports with daily updates? Anyone have any suggestions?

Is this the case?Theoretically, the OC's listing should at least say paid. But, did you make the check out to the CA? If so, hmmmm...it might not even get credited to the OC. Keep an eye on your reports. If nothing changes in 30-45 days, you might want to call the OC and raise some hell.
