credit_68
Can a SL mistake remove a late? I ask this because, on my credit report they have JUN06-OK JUL06-OK AUG06-60days late SEP06-OK. It is mathematically impossible to be 60days late in a 30 day time period!! Are these grounds to get the lates removed totally ?
direred
Most student loans don't report lates until the person is 60 days late (they're not required to report 30-day lates). It's probably correct, and if it is, it MUST be reported per the higher education act. credit_68
Yeah, but to report 60days in a 30 day time period is impossible. Can this be viewed as a mistake and grounds for removel of lates?
direred
No, it's not a mistake (unless you also want the 30-day late) and it cannot, by law, be removed.Like I said, it's not required for student loan lenders to report 30-day lates, so they generally don't. This doesn't make it a "mistake" -- it makes it easier for those of us who were 32 days late but not 60.
CreditLawGuru
not to argue, because i don't have specific knowledge of student loan lenders, but i would like to see the rule that says they don't have to report 30 day lates. it seems to me that the TL wouldn't be complete and accurate if it was reported the way the OP says. direred
It's in the higher education act.I found it once.I'm not going through it to find it again.
PolarBearnCO
You are probably aware that you were late. I'm not sure why you are arguing this. The 60-day late isn't the mistake. It's the "ok" before the 60-day late that's the mistake. If you'd like them to fix that, call them up and ask them to turn it into a 30-day late. Then you'll have two lates.Go for it!
