Renai3
but when I put in search, I get one thread under Mortgages. That's not it. I'm pretty sure that Midpoint=pond scum, but I'd like to be sure, lol.I got a call from them, I took it (I know, I know...). They have my HSBC account. I told them I had written them directly (HSBC) to settle a month ago and never received a response. He told me that they were avoiding this account going to court or something like that, collecting $990+, I interrumpted him. I said no, actually the bill was $883, and only $600 of it were purchases, everything else were late fees I was not going to pay (I was in a payment plan with HSBC). He spoke like this was already filed with the county clerk.I asked him what his company does and exactly what was his job. I asked him because he said wait, let me get HSBC on the phone about this. I doubt he ever REALLY spoke to someone, but said the lady on the phone said they'd settle for $542.50. I told him to put it in writing and snail mail it to me. Ah, he also mentioned, oh wait, for some reason I don't have the account info right here, let me get HSBC on the phone. That's when the other part of the conversation transpired. He said it would go on the credit report as Settled in Full with the OC (currently the CA has not reported, so is not on my credit report). So, I should finally be getting something in the mail from somebody that has one of my accounts. Should I treat it as a first notification and ask for verification? (Especially since he said he doesn't have the account info.) They bait and switch, why shouldn't I? HSBC said they had sold the account and wouldn't give me any other info, so this is all I have. Oh, btw, the last pymt they said they received was 6/06. I had also sent a pymt 3/07 which hasn't cleared yet.Clear as mud?Renai
Big Time
Never heard of them, but sounds like they probably can't validate. Quit talking to them on the phone, and send your DV.Be aware that if they did record it, they may have you on tape promising to pay. Wanting to pay what you legitimately owe is never a bad thing, but it hurts your credit score so much and for so long that you pretty much have to be aggressive with them about getting everything in writing, including the deletion (or not rerporting in the first place) of their tradeline as well as them agreeing that it is payment in full, so there is no remaining balance to sell off to yet another JDB.If they do pop up on your credit reports, dispute them with the CRA's immediately. Renai3
Ok, that's what I thought I should do. I had to speak on the phone though, as I have no address (I posted a couple of weeks back). This way, I'm getting them to send me something. So, I have an address to DV- treat this as first notification then. Oh, and I never promised to pay them, when he made an offer of settle, I asked a few questions, then told him to put it in writing. He kept asking for a fax or email, but I pushed for snail mail. Hopefully, I'll get it this week. Thanks, oh, and I have a transcript of the conversation as well. I'm thinkign of contacting the OC to see if they have a record of contact, cuz this guy said he had them on the phone. If there is no record, I'm thinking I can do something with that as well (lying, saying they're preparing a court case, etc.).Thanks again! I'm waiting for the mail, then I'll DV.RenaiNever heard of them, but sounds like they probably can't validate. MissaFraQ
If HSBC wouldn't talk to you because they have nothing on the account then how can the CA "call" and speak to a lady who authorized a pay off of $542.50??What a crock of you know what
Renai3
New Mexico is one state in which any payment resets the SOL! Well, that's ugly, but this is so recent (6/06), one year probably won't make a difference. I'm on the phone with the OC right now. I've gotten passed around a couple times and right now I'm on hold (I've done the CMRR thing and they never responded). I'd much rather deal with them than the CA (especially since CA hasn't reported yet). I hope it works. 'Paul' just told me the account was sold, but monies paid go toward the card, and now I've been transferred to the recovery department. I just asked the guy, if the account is sold, how is the payment credited to the card. Unfortunately, I think I got someone in India right now (no offense, but golly).Renai

No one has given me a straight answer, but there are no notes on the account stating the conversation took place. They also said they do not have any case filed against me. I figure I'll hit Midpoint with a DV first, then this other info second (no settlement with HSBC, no court case being filed, etc.).Now to figure out what to do with Discover. I think they DID send to a lawyer. (I got a notice to sign for a letter at the post office but I never picked it up.)Renai
Renai3
Seems that not even HSBC has heard of Midpoint. They gave me the info of the agency they sold it to (Forward Properties- one man show), and suggested I not deal with Midpoint at all. When I told her of the Friday conversation, she said it sounded like a scam to her (who wants to bet I don't get anything in the mail?). But, this means another phone call, as I have no addy info on Forward Properties (and I've tried google, see my first thread)!Renai

I only recognize the name Doug in the email (Debtor Line), it could be the same Doug on the voice mail when I call the 800 number.
